US election 2020 thread

I don't know about that - I'm just sceptical of there being any link between childhood bullying and political affiliation later on in life. Those kinds of links are usually made by people who are still bitter about the hard time they had as a kid, and want bullies & bullying to be an indication of something deeper than it actually is.
I dont know either, and i probably am a bit bitter still but trumpism isn't a normal political movement, i mean who are these people what motivates them, its not his policies i don't think or that they admire the man its something weirder.

Mike Bloomberg is splashing out $15m on Biden ads in Ohio and Texas in the last week of the campaign. Which is the act of a man going for the landslide and no longer in any doubt as to who has won the closer states

Trump is like the bully in chief that's his whole appeal ? The rallying call is a violent fuck you to the weaklings, the soft, the not-us. It's a weird to me that you don't see what i see, especially with the women supporters, where it looks to me like only damaged and scared people are drawn to what they think is the shelter of being on the right side of trump. I do get that this is possibly just me trying to understand something that i find scary though in terms that i can almost have sympathy for.

Has to be said about TX that we're genuinely off the map in terms of what this turnout indicates. Never been a high turnout state, some very fast growing/changing counties, traditionally GOP but I read stuff about how much Trump is hated there by trad conservatives... but we just don't know who's voting here, it's never been like this before

They sure do, Melania.

I agree bimble - the bullying is a big part of the appeal. There os a demographic, if not necessarily a massive one, that enjoys having a president who says the things they are angry they are 'not allowed' to say anymore (which they still say all the time anyway, of course) - the racism, misogyny and xenophobia. Damn right those uppity blacks, shrill, unfeminine women and criminal immigrants get put in their place, as far as these people are concerned.

I remember an interview with a female Trump supporter when he ran the first time that stuck with me. She said "Trump is hurting the wrong people." As usual, the reporter missed the obvious next question: "Who are the right people?"

Fucking Sodding hell!:eek::eek::D
what's going on - have they enfranchised the horses?
Montana's a bit to the left of the other Mountain West states tbf and most counties have gone all-mail ballot this time so turn out is soaring. And as I said, Obama got that close in '08

Tbh I'm struggling to resist Godwin's law here. Any excuse people had for being taken in by Trump last time - pissed off, disaffected, alienated, whatever - doesn't apply this time. If he loses this time but still gets 60 million votes, that's still pretty depressing. How are they different from the millions of Germans who loved Hitler?

Agreed, TX is in totally new teritory. Only a fool would call anything there

YESSS!!!!!:D
Go raph, Go jon!
What's n otable is that Collins and Loeffler together are polling less than warnock. That state is swinging
Yup, they've been trying to outflank each other to the right and Warnock has gobbled up almost the entire Dem vote. Not a million miles off avoiding a run off now

Where do you live again? (if I can ask)
Bristol!

I think it's a combination of using social media, esp Twitter, but also having a halfway decent mental filter to assess what info 'seems' correct/useful and what doesn't. I have a mediocre history degree but one thing it taught me was how to assess sources of evidence and use them

Also, I'm an info sponge
