US election 2020 thread

Dallas quite Dem now, Fort Worth has inched that way too albeit a little behind. The counties to the north further behind again but seem to hopped on the Beto train in '18. Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and Austin all blue and again the suburbs are swinging that way as well.
Even better. I have to admit, I loved Austin - 4 days, 4 fabulous gigs, 4 even more fab tex-mex meals - but I found both Dallas and Houson to be utterly devoid of both soul and personality

Not been to Texas but yeah, they're both just the Big City aren't they? Houston the third biggest administration in the US

Some district level polling:

Redistricting has occurred recently (Dems won the district on these boundaries by ten points in 2018). But Lean TossUp has tweeted to say this district was Clinton +1 in '16 (on these boundaries) so yeah, Pennsylvania (or at least the eastern end of it) would appear to be going OK. Have seen other district polls in eastern PA with similarly large (double digit) swings towards Biden from the Clinton result

Anyway, 64.7m people have already voted, 46.9% of '16 turnout. Expected to hit 70m & 50% by end of today

The western states are very much setting the pace as a block in terms of % of vote in. Most of them are now on some form of all-mail balloting. TX now at over 82% of '16 vote but first place in that respect is Hawaii who now have over 86%. Think that site was only getting data from Honolulu (by far the biggest county) as well so probably more.

Not heard that to be honest - last time I moved was three years back.

But surely everyone can recite their NINO if needed so it's not a stretch for people to make one up. Unless electoral registration officers have access to HMRC systems (unlikely) they would be none the wiser.

You do not need your NI number. If you can't provide it, they email you and ask for an image of your passport or something else from a list of IDs driving license, utility bill etc

I'm not sure about this at all - certainly of all the bullies & bully supporters I still know from school there's no particular pattern of political affiliation.
Maybe it depends on whether you see trump as a collection of policies / political ideas or more as a cult of personality and a conduit for channelling resentment and fear (i tend to the second).
I mean its hard to imagine an authoritarian movement where you all wear the same hat and enjoy chanting 'lock em up' being fronted by a placid quietly spoken considered sort of person and attracting well adjusted non messed up humans, even if his actual policies such as they are might?

I don't know about that - I'm just sceptical of there being any link between childhood bullying and political affiliation later on in life. Those kinds of links are usually made by people who are still bitter about the hard time they had as a kid, and want bullies & bullying to be an indication of something deeper than it actually is.

Biden has certainly never seemed especially unwilling to use American military force to bully other countries.

Indeed, I think with a Biden win the US are more likely to go to war. It has been a thing I have approved of with Trump that he seems very anti going to war.
