The officers who spoke to the AP said they were given next to no warning by leadership on the morning of Jan. 6 about what would become a growing force of thousands of rioters, many better armed than the officers themselves were. And once the riot began, they were given no instructions by the department’s leaders on how to stop the mob or rescue lawmakers who had barricaded themselves inside. There were only enough officers for a routine day.

They rejected offers of support from the Pentagon three days before the siege, according to senior defense officials and two people familiar with the matter. And during the riot, they turned down an offer by the Justice Department to have FBI agents come in as reinforcements. The officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity to discuss the decision-making process.

No one accused any of these people of being smart:

A self-confessed white supremacist who openly discussed plotting a school shooting and killing people in a church has been charged with being involved in the attack on the Capitol after his GPS monitor placed him at the scene.

Bryan Betancur, of Silver Spring, is facing charges including unlawful activities on Capitol grounds and disorderly conduct after he was arrested in Maryland on Sunday, authorities have said.

According to an affidavit signed by FBI Special Agent Alexis Brown, Betancur admitted to law enforcement officers that he is a white supremacist and that he is a member of several white supremacy organizations.

If that's it, AND tomorrow isn't mental. That's not bad and quite a useful bit of sampling. These 'far right militia' could be just as much Biden's bogeyman as Antifa was Trump's....If you took a dig around in the UK territorial army (which is in total about the size of this deployment of US military reservists) you'd probably more than a couple with far right connections but not hundreds
 
I see the beeb has him down as likely to pardon Sheldon Silver, the dodgy af Speaker of the NY Assembly. Currently serving seven years for various acts of corruption, backhanders and failure to investigate rape charges. Which would make him sound like an ideal candidate for the corrupt rapist in chief to pardon. Except he is a Democrat and a major democrat player, so it seems odd. Unless, maybe, he is hoping that if he 'gives the dems one' they might return the favour.
