I'm just wondering what is the best thing the Biden administration can do counter the threat of MAGA extremism/terrorism in the longer run.
If he were to, I hope will ensure to announce it when Trump is out of the White House, and changes the locks before orange buffoon gets back.I'll be very very very surprised if pence invokes 25
Surely he'll just tell trump in private to shut the fuck up and lay low until the 20th
Yeah, but that's socialism. It's individual's responsibility to keep their jobs and health insurance, not the government to help them stay alive and able to feed their families and cope with illness! Many of these people have been losing ground economically, along with everyone else. The average life-span of white men has been declining. You have to provide people with hope for the future by raising wages, straightening out healthcare, and fixing other quality of life issues.
kabbes doesn't assassinate people, he just adjusts their life expectancyDamn. Thought you were speaking with your assassin's hat on.
Latest job approval poll - fieldwork yesterday and today by the looks of it.

Yeah, it was ever thus - despite the fact that when asked about a lot of 'socialist' policies without the political label they actually agree with them.Yes, their anger has been misdirected by people who profit from maintaining the status quo. You have to remember that in some parts of the US, Fox News is the only news source.

I just saw this on twitter, and agree with it completely.
Pretty straight up commentary here, not beating around the bush like so many do.... Good points about the use of online media instead of local news and how data savvy 'spads' have helped Trump (et al) exploit that...
‘This has everything to do with race from top to bottom’ – Prof Timothy Snyder on Capitol siege
We spoke to Timothy Snyder, a professor of History at Yale University who has argued the way President Trump has behaved throughout his term has been heading towards tyranny.www.channel4.com
Just found this by accident, which suggests there is a route to 'disqualify' rather than impeach, which requires only a simple majority. Seems a bit vague as to whether that can only be done after an impeachment, which would still put the 2/3 hurdle in place.Equally hazy about the option of carrying on proceedings after he's gone. Anyway, I don't see any of it happening.Ah, yes, I'm confusing myself. I remember it being reasonably close last time and thinking 'ooh, close thing', when in fact the dems only got close to a simple majority.
Yep. They don't seem to grasp what the political terms mean.
Trump has already been impeached once, and it only needs a simple majority in the House of Representatives to impeach him again. This is different from conviction and removal from office, which needs a two thirds majority in the Senate.Just found this by accident, which suggests there is a route to 'disqualify' rather than impeach, which requires only a simple majority. We must impeach Trump and bar him from holding office again. Now | US Capitol breach | The Guardian
Seem to remember hearing yesterday there could be a vote of censure. That would be a simple majority (?) but, pretty pointless.

However, I couldn't imagine this succeeding at the Houses of Parliament. I'm sure that those at the head of any group trying this would be shot.

An impeachment, if successful in the Senate, can be a bar from seeking office. Impeachment means you abused the power of your office and you don't get to be elected again, if that's what the Senate decides. As to whether other politicians should have the right to impose such a sanction, well that's up to the constitution. The US constitution gives them that power but sets a high bar at 2/3 majority.Seems rather pointless as he'll be out of office in two weeks. The only real power that trump still has is vested in his militant supporters, who are more likely to be inflamed rather than pacified by such an action.
As to banning him from holding office in future, what right should one group of politicians have to ban another from seeking office, even Presidential office?
Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States.
Depends, if the Queen turned up in Trafalgar Square and told people to mob Parliament I think it would complicate matters.
Agree with you on all counts, I was just responding to reports that Pelosi in particular wants to have a go at it. I think the real issue when it comes to the balance in the senate (for anything like an impeachment conviction) is that the Dems didn't take the senate in the mid terms and have only just squeaked it now. Amid all the huffing and puffing about attacks on the constitution and the problems faced by the GOP dealing with trump's legacy, the Dems are still barely engaging with their lost voters and lost places.Seems rather pointless as he'll be out of office in two weeks. The Dems have just taken control of all three bits of government - president, senate, house of reps - for the first time since 2009. And that with a system that is biased against them. They're not doing so badly.Agree with you on all counts, I was just responding to reports that Pelosi in particular wants to have a go at it. Yeah, I know there's that logic and I've seen the figures on stuff like the greater number of voters represented by the Dems as opposed to the GOP 50. Same time, after 4 years of bizarre and offensive governance, along with trump's covid performance...The Dems have just taken control of all three bits of government - president, senate, house of reps - for the first time since 2009. Yeah I know. But it's the same here. Ten years of fucking tory cuts and they still keep getting back in.Yeah, I know there's that logic and I've seen the figures on stuff like the greater number of voters represented by the Dems as opposed to the GOP 50.
