Wish I could find where I read it, but I saw a sensibly written article talking about how the split in America was very much between the cities and the rural areas.I don’t know that I can name them. And I admit that it’s not something I’ve read somewhere but rather something I’ve deducted from various sources, including conversations.
Things are tricky in rural areas for sure. This is from two years ago, I didn’t find anything more recent but my understanding is that things are are certainly not getting better.
Violent Crime in Rural Areas Rises Above U.S. Average - The Crime Report
Large metropolitan areas are safer than they have been in decades, while some small communities are getting more dangerous. In at least 10 states, most in the Midwest and Northeast, the rate of violence in rural counties has increased over two decades, the Wall Street Journal reports.thecrimereport.org
People have spoken to me about some really nasty shit that goes on “over yonder” or in the next county etc and when I say normal stuff about how can this happen, what about the police they laugh at me.
So yeah, I shouldn’t have said it as if it's fact. But from what I read and hear, it see,s to me that there are parts of rural America that pretty much gets left alone.
That's not dissimilar to the UK, tbf, and we may see that split widening here. Many people down here (Hampshire) have no affinity at all with London (despite working there!) and the big northern cities, or even the likes of Reading/Slough/Brighton/Bristol.
