US election 2020 thread

Lil Wood, advocate for Trump (& Qanon) reminding his followers that asking for evidence is basically sinful, what matters is Faith.

I think by now anybody who wanted evidence of the massive fraud that stole the election has left the building.
What proportion that is though, of the estimated 70% of republican voters who said they believed it a couple of weeks back, who knows. I suspect the lack of evidence will turn out to not matter at all.

The number of democrat voters who thought Russia 'tampered with vote tallies' to get Donald Trump elected was running at 66% in 2018, with a similar level of evidence.

There's a total breakdown of trust in the democratic process across the spectrum - the fact that similar numbers on both sides are prepared to believe it's got to be down to foul play if their guy doesn't win suggests these guys are riding something rather than causing it.

Also seems to be plenty of denial there among Republicans who still believed in early 2018 that Russia hadn't been manipulating social media and hacking Democrats to help Trump.

tbf to Lin Wood, the setting sun can reveal pretty convincing evidence of faith being well-placed...

I wasn't posting this to defend republican voters - just to demonstrate that this is a political partisan thing and both sides are (more or less) equally prone to it. Two years after the last election, 66% of democrats believed there was probably something in a lurid conspiracy theory about Russia hacking voting machines to tip the election for Donald Trump - close to the same number of republicans who believe similar lurid conspiracy theories now.

The Democrats polled were clearly far too inclined to jump to conclusions, but there was a lot more evidence for Russian hacking than the Ghost of Hugo Chavez conspiracy theories - the poll was taken after an NSA worker was jailed for leaking a classified government report that found Russian intelligence services had hacked or attempted to hack local government officials, voter registration databases, and election software companies.

That's a strange poll set-up. It doesn't have 'dunno' as an option. Everyone is expected to have an opinion one way or another. It also isn't symmetrical - 'somewhat true' vs 'probably not true'. Why not 'probably true' vs 'probably not true'. Where is 'possibly true' on there (which would be roughly the same as 'dunno')? Is that pushed into the 'somewhat true' category in the absence of anything better?

tbh the Reps resistant to the idea that Russia meddled at all, despite the clear evidence that it did, is still the most troubling feature for me of that flawed poll.

It would obviously be ridiculous to think that all republican voters are anti-science and more prone to baseless myths but would it be fair to say that of the the 40 ish % of Americans who reckon god created the world about 10,000 years ago pretty much all of them vote republican? idk maybe not. But believing stuff like that would have to prime you for believing whatever else is asked of you.

Was there ever any credible evidence that Russians had tampered with vote tallies to get Donald Trump elected?

Narrator: There was not.

I'm more inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to people who suspected Russians had hacked vote tallies at a time when evidence of massive Russian hacking was still emerging and a major investigation was ongoing, than to people who suspected Democrats had hacked the vote after cases alleging fraud had been laughed out of court and the only people pushing the theories were clearly insane.

Narrator: Donald Trump and Sidney Powell, for example.

Also the design of these polls matters. As I'm sure you know, how these things are designed and phrased makes a big difference to the results that come out of them. That poll has two obvious flaws to me - no 'neutral' option and a lack of symmetry.

lol whatever guys. Just erase the last 4 years of liberal hysterics and say it's all a right-wing problem if you like.
To be fair that poll was taken two years after the election a proper comparison on this cannot be made until 2022 , how many democrats were waiting for the kraken to be unleashed 3 weeks after the 2016 election is a better comparison, any numbers on that?
