US election 2020 thread

In the two counties Trump chose for the recount, Democrat Joe Biden received 577,455 votes compared with 213,157 for Trump. Biden won statewide by 20,608 votes, based on canvassed results submitted by the counties.

“The people of Wisconsin deserve to know whether their election processes worked in a legal and transparent way,” said Wisconsin attorney Jim Troupis, who is working with the Trump campaign. “Regrettably, the integrity of the election results cannot be trusted without a recount in these two counties and uniform enforcement of Wisconsin absentee ballot requirements. We will not know the true results of the election until only the legal ballots cast are counted.”

The recount, once formally approved by the elections commission chair, could start as soon as Thursday and no later than Saturday. It would have to be complete by Dec. 1.

Recounts in Wisconsin and across the country have historically resulted in very few vote changes. A 2016 presidential recount in Wisconsin netted Trump an additional 131 votes.

I hope they made him fork out the $3m upfront or thery will never see that money

It really looks like it's " amateur hour" at the white house.
I suppose when you hire on loyalty and not skill, this is what happens.

The campaign and Carlson said this vote was a fraud because Deborah Jean Christiansen died last year. In fact, the vote was legally cast by a living woman who also happens to be named Deborah Jean Christiansen, born in the same year and month but on a different day.

Christiansen answered the door when CNN showed up on Tuesday evening.

Christiansen, a retired mental health counselor who moved from Nebraska to Georgia in September, said she voted for Trump in 2016 but came to regret the decision, then voted for Joe Biden in 2020.

Christiansen said the false accusation from the Trump campaign is "just ridiculous," part of an effort by a "narcissist" president to deny the obvious reality of his defeat.

And it was not the only time the Trump campaign did so.

Last week, CNN debunked two other false claims from the campaign, both echoed by Carlson on air and in an online column, about ballots supposedly being cast in the name of deceased Georgia voters. (Carlson ended up apologizing on air for one of those claims -- in which he and the Trump campaign had wrongly accused a 96-year-old widow -- and had an editor's note about the correction attached to his column.)

I hear Bernie Sanders is eyeing a possibility of position as Labor Secretary in Biden’s team.
Would that give Biden more credibility or just make the new administration another target.

this has been discussed upthread, he'd need to resign from the senate, and there's no guarantee the dems would win a special election. so no.

He was saying the Republican Governor of Vermont would favour a Democrat, but we’ve heard geese fart before.
Sorry I missed it up thread. But I heard Sanders discussing it this morning so thought relevant.

It's utterly preposterous but only serves a post-defeat narrative, and while trump seems to have split from Fox and gone into OAN quack land, whether or not a significant proportion of the republican party follow and lead the them openly into extreme bonkers territory, as a party, thus confirming the total trumpist takeover, or if trump will split from the GOP too for perceived lack of loyalty / faith in the final victory - this remains to be seen. As trump is a narcissist I know he wouldn't hesitate to do the later if he thought it were in his best interest but not sure he's there (yet).

President-elect Joe Biden’s winning tally is approaching a record 80 million votes as Democratic bastions continue to count ballots and the 2020 election cracks turnout records.

The rising Biden tally and his popular vote lead — nearly 6 million votes — come as Trump has escalated his false insistence that he actually won the election, and his campaign and supporters intensify their uphill legal fight to stop or delay results from being certified, potentially nullify the votes of Americans.

So, almost 6 million more votes, but it actually comes down to just around 45k.

Trump sealed that victory with 77,000 votes across three battleground states, while Biden's margin would be slightly narrower — about 45,000 votes across Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin.

I am loving this quote. :D

“It's just a lot of noise going on, because Donald Trump is a bull who carries his own china shop with him,” said Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian at Rice University. “Once the noise recedes, it's going to be clear that Biden won a very convincing victory.”

help! Are these men doing a satire or are they real?
i absolutely can't tell anymore (you have to listen right to the end though)

I can’t watch it, they are deluded or brainwashed.
This dangerous genie will never go back in the bottle.
