US election 2020 thread

What is the benefit in keeping it alive a little longer?

As Bimble has said Dolchstoßlegende.

but also they're using this to fundraise. The small print says that most of the donations go into Trump's pocket, but if you're going to be fooled by Gateway Pundit level bullshit then you're probably not going to be the sort of person who reads the small print.

Trump admin has decreed that nobody in the health department talk to the next administration. Because it’s not like there’s anything important going on in terms of public health. Absolutely mad.

Fuck me, that's absolutely conspiracy to commit murder.

So how many trump loyalists care more about their next 2 months salary compared to those ( approx 2k per day ! ) who are going to die because of covid in that same period ...

Also, I think importantly, what have they (trump and the republicans who have let it get this far) what have they got to lose at this point by carrying on, nothing at all. And there is a greater than zero chance that they’ll actually succeed by turning the electors. Not much more than zero but again nothing to lose.

It seems like a plan guaranteed to fail. So yeah, I'll go with that.

Well Pompeo’s trip today to the West Bank is nailing his colours to the mast for a run for POTUS in 2024.
Evangelical Christians and Trump’s acolytes will flock to support him now.

ETA: Were Pompeo and Netanyahu separated at birth?

Nah, it's zero. I suppose there was a chance that they would uncover widespread fraud without having any reason to suspect it is there, but that massive long shot is clearly not working, and it was their only real non-zero chance.

The rest comes down to theoretical ways the US system could be manipulated, and those won't happen. We've already seen that the courts and local state Republicans are determined that it won't happen.

Well, that would be fun to watch with Trump standing against him as the one true Trump candidate!
President Harris, then.

It’s not 0. It might well be 0.0001 but i still think the non zeroness in their minds is important. When set next to the nothing left to lose.

Well if they are doing this with a run in 2024 in mind, I'm not sure attacking prominent members of their own party working in swing states is exactly a risk free activity. Some of these are presumably people they would (or should) want onside, and have close relationships with others in similar positions.

I suppose the other risk is that the Democrats will see all these attempts at smoke & mirror manipulations and decide to be even more active in the "swing" states - plus the senate run-offs in Georgia - to make sure of future results.

(I'm just being too hopeful, aren't I ?)

They’ve got Georgia on their minds too (sorry). They still need the base riled up to stop the dems winning the senate with victories in the run offs their.
Yep, but the most obvious way to motivate their voters is to present the reality of Biden/Dem control...not promote the idea that all may well turn out OK in the end. But when did logic apply to anything Trumpesque? :D

Logically, both the Reps and the Dems should be totally focused on those run-offs. This election is not properly over until they are done. I am, to say the least, confused by the Reps' current behaviour, particularly that of the two candidates in Georgia turning on their own people in the state legislature.

Anyone taking bets as to whether the networks cut away from it when T/man starts whittering about "voter fraud" and the "stolen election" ?

But this is the bit I don't quite get. Riling up the Trumpist base while alienating other Republican voters doesn't seem smart. Surely they need both to turn out for them.
