US election 2020 thread

The same as any of our records I guess.
I jjust had a look and the entire thing seems to stem from some far right rando posting CNN says Dick Cheney will be advising Biden on foreign policy on twitter. There's no clip, and no-one can find one, so we can safely assume it's bullshit.

GA's GOP Senators Perdue and Loeffler have gone all in on demanding the Georgia Secretary of State resign for mismanaging the elections.

No evidence of any wrongdoing, just demand a fellow Republican stand down because they didn't get the desired result
Wow. That's high risk with the runoffs looming. A Georgia Republican civil war for the next two months?

Seen a few theories - trying to keep the base energised for the run offs, trying to ensure Trump support for their races etc

Does seem like a good way for Georgia Dems to keep their campaigns on the boil as well though

Surely the only way that doesn't backfire is if serious problems are found with the Georgia count, because by the time of the runoffs, it will all be done and dusted either way. They are hoping, without evidence, that a Republican administration nobbled/buggered up the election in such a way as to let the Democrats win when they really lost.

That's, um, a long shot.

I suspect there are going to be a lot of rumours around in the next couple of months. Bernie Sanders for the Department of Labor is another one I've seen mooted.

Lots of wishful thinking on all sides, no doubt.

You won't see any progressives on Biden's list. I don't expect to see Sanders or Warren. You'll notice that the Democratic party leadership are lining up to blame the progressives of losses in state races and the house.

Here's a post of mine from another thread form Oct 5th that got lost in the noise a little.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Check out Brian Kemp, Republican Governor of Georgia.

Between 2012 and 2018 he cancelled 1.4 million voter registrations.

During the 2018 election (which he won) he held up 53,000 voter applications, more than 70% of them from African-Americans.

He won that election by a coincidental 53,000 votes.

People were having their voter applications cancelled for discrepancies as small as missing out a hyphen in their name.

There's plenty more on his anti-democratic genius, including refusals to accept help against Russian interference in elections, here at wikipedia.

And just to be clear about the division of responsibilities here, Brad Raffensperger, another Republican, is the elected official with specific responsibility for elections. It's not up to the Governor. He should simply be referring people to Brad.

Raffensperger is not a nice man either, mind.

During the 2020 election, Raffensperger sought to prevent Georgia polling places from having printing paper backups of voter registration and absentee voting information in case polling places would struggle to use voter check-in tablets, called Poll Pads, which had been problematic in Georgia's primary elections earlier that year. The tablets had caused long lines at polling places. Voting rights groups had requested paper backups to prevent a risk of chaos on election day in case the tablets failed

Pretty depressing poll today. Trump's evidence-free squealing is having a big effect.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll published today revealed that 70% of Republicans don’t believe the election was free and fair, compared to 35% of Republican voters in previous elections. Among these Republicans, 78% said they believe mail-in voting led to widespread fraud and 72% believed that ballots were tampered with. The vast majority of these Republicans believe this was in favor of Joe Biden.

It would also mean the Republican governor of Vermont would be appointing someone to finish Bernie's term which seems... unwise
In the unlikely event of a romney appointment the governor of Utah would appoint also (till the mid terms, when it would be contested). Doesn't matter anyway, it's Utah, the Dems ain't winning it.

I was happy to think its all just a grift to get money from the stupidest of the supporters but what are they doing at this point seriously, with the attorney general joining in, if they really don't think they have a shadow of a chance of trump keeping his crown what is the game?
