US election 2020 thread

Looks like the Dems won't get control of the Senate. If Biden wins, does this mean 4 years of stalemate while he struggles to undo the damage done by Trump?
Another set of senate seats are up in 2022. Assuming Biden is president, it's possible some of those seats won't benefit from the galvanising downticket support Trump gave some candidates this time around (or perhaps the reverse will be true).

I can't see two years of getting fuck all done favouring the democrats in the mid terms tbh (if they win at all)
Could they not play the "it's the Republicans who are stalling everything; give us control of the Senate and we'll get shit done"?

<edit: I mean, given Biden's performance (if he even wins) they'll probably have to go some to get people to think that the Dems getting shit done is a positive>

This is all very true but assuming Biden wins there is one huge factor in play which will cause the GOP a fair bit of soul-searching, because they will be trumpless. they will have to recalibrate and decide what new direction to take.

Y'know, I don't think that had really occurred to me. Obviously I knew Trump wouldn't stick around, but I don't think it had quite clicked that the GOP would have to deal with whatever the fuck he's left them  :D

That said, people like Mitch McConnell will probably just keep doing what they've been doing.

Biden could and should have won more easily, but if he does end up flipping AZ, PA, WI, MI, NE1 and possibly even GA/NC, then most people would have called that a fantastic, thumping result if they'd been called earlier in the evening.

We all knew Trump was going to get 40%+ so I'm not surprised he's polled as well as he has in some areas.

Oh hells, if Trump loses this close does he become a martyr?
Short answer: No.

He won't have won the popular vote after all. And Clinton didn't become a martyr after she did win the popular vote. Gore didn't really become a martyr after he had the election stolen from him. The closeness of the vote will quickly be forgotten by both sides, I would think. He'll become a loser. :)

But this ain't over yet...

For anybody who hasn't noticed, I only just did, if you scroll down the guardian page you get the numerical gap and number of votes left to count for the key states.
Be careful on that Wilf I'm not sure how they are measuring % left to count when in many cases votes will still be coming in up to about week afterward

NE1 already definitely gone to biden, he's got 1 EC from Nebraska, and apparently got all the EC up for grabs in Maine. Think AZ and WI are sown up, MI and NV could still hold surprises, PA would be wonderful but not necessary if the previously mentioned go blue, and I'd abandon all hope for GA and NC
