Fair enough. Well, for me the North starts at the far end of the platforms at Blackfriars.

it's a bit more subtle than that.

from the south there's

foreign parts (here be dragons)
the sea
the seaside
the country / farms
stockbrokers and the like
SOUTH LONDON
the river
the bit with posh peoples' shops / offices
north london :(
the midlands (since the signs to the M1 say 'watford and the north' then watford must be the midlands)
the north
scotland (the arctic circle starts somewhere in the north or scotland or somewhere like that)
the north pole

:p

:p

You were doing so well till then. Watford the Midlands ?!!? It’s on the fucking tube. Which makes it more ‘London’ than most of South London…

The North starts at Watford.

The expression is the North Starts at Watford Gap. ( a motorway services and canal and railway pinch point near the small village of Watford which isn’t the same as the Watford that is the jewel in Hertfordshire’s crown) But that’s bollocks as even Watford Gap barely makes it into the south of the East Midlands.

The North starts at Watford. Not Watford gap.

If anyone can be arsed to see how urban75's totally non scientific demographic data compares to the UK's population, here's the info you need:

See, even by those figures the East is the fourth most populous region of England and far more populous than both Scotland and Wales. And yet we are forsaken…

Lost in the high street, where the dogs run
Roaming suburban boys
Mother's got her hairdo to be done
She says they're too old for toys
Stood by the bus stop with a felt pen
In this suburban hell
And in the distance a police car
To break the suburban spell

Let's take a ride
And run with the moomins tonight in suburbia
You can't hide
Run with the moomins tonight
In suburbia

Break the window by the town hall
Listen, a siren screams
There in the distance like a roll call
Of all the suburban dreams

Let's take a ride
And run with the moomins tonight in suburbia
You can't hide
Run with the moomins tonight
In suburbia

I only wanted something else to do but troll a thread
I only wanted something else to do but troll a thread
Same old boring Sunday morning
Old man's out washing the car
Mum's in the kitchen cooking Sunday dinner
Her best meal, moaning while it lasts
Teuchter's upstairs in his bedroom sitting in the dark
Annoying Urban with his latest cutting remark

This is the sound (This is the sound of the suburbs)
(This is the sound of the suburbs)
