Hmmm, I see your thinking, although that variation invokes a scenic detour to Tebay Services (reasonably handy for those who wish to thumb a lift to Kendal) but only if playing by the High Barnet Rules (Version 3.1.1) and if carrying a copy of New Scientist.
Finchley Central!

Literally the world turned upside down
No, the world will still be the same way up, and north will still be north. Compasses will point in the opposite direction. There will a fortune to be made in producing compassed with the south pole painted red.

Ok i'm south of the op's dividing line then

Guess i'm on the list now :(

I surprised that the thread has gone well past its use-by date and reached page 17 without anyone commenting on the fact that in setting an arbitrary dividing line supposedly delineating "Northern" & "Southern" parts of the UK, the OP chose to illustrate the line using a settlement explicitly named after the prime cardinal direction.

Also, we can only imagine the consternation amongst those denizens of South Northallerton who would find themselves defined by the OP as Southerners.

Well, yes....but magnetic North would be South.
