Ukraine invasion memes and viral content

A tenner says the person who made that meme was not an angry anarcho-com sixth former like you, but rather a conservative / alt-righter interested in owning the libs and having no qualms about being tacitly pro-putin in order to do so, as trump did for years
I suspect they got it from the same "facebook anarchist" as this post..

Yeah, it makes little sense to me either. I think it might be having a go at liberals being 'against' molotovs in the US, but pro in Ukraine maybe? It's incredibly shit though, doesn't really make sense at all.

The only way I can get it to make sense is: Molotovs were used in Portland, but liberals deny it because that would look bad for their side. Molotovs were not used in Ukraine, maybe because the people (those not in the pay of NATO) really like Russia, but liberals happily accept that they were. But that doesn't really work either.

Or, to sum up, it's fucking daft.

I think the meme is saying that liberals are against people in their own country using molotovs against injustice, but that doesn't apply to people doing it abroad. Seems obvious to me. Kinda reminds when David Cameron condemned the rioters in 2011 but then praised those who rioted in the middle east (I think it may have been Egypt at the time).

Its a shame I get piled on just for disagreeing with liberals and I see no evidence that its a 'right wing' meme.

I'm not particularly arsed about whether people use Molotov cocktails in America and the UK against police, but if you can't see the difference between people's disapproval of using deadly force as a protest against police injustice, versus approval of those using it against an invading force who want to rape and murder your people, then I worry for you.

Maybe it's because you have lots of form for posts like:

  • lets hope those Jewish kids die
  • Lets laugh at those funny Muslims who blow people up
  • Ain't raging feminists funny
  • If people dislike Putins behaviour it must be because they just love western invasions

Fuck this. You're banned off this thread for good.

'You won't believe the size of this fish mate. It really was this big' Lukashenko scoffs because he caught a trout four times as big as that

I think the point of the meme is that the respective situations in the Pacific Northwest of the US and in Ukraine are identical in almost every respect. And so, there's a terrible hypocrisy involved in thinking about them as if there were identifiable differences between the two.

He's been banned from this thread now so can't see this...

It doesn't really work because the people using Molotovs in Ukraine aren't using them against their own Government.

So all it seems to be saying is that Liberals' opinions about the use of weapons varies with regard to who is wielding them and against whom.
Which seems like a bit of a "no shit, Sherlock".

some people believe that something that may have happened - didnt actually happen. However the same people do believe that something that definitely happened - did happen. Have i missed something? What is the actual point being made?

Yeah, that's better than my stab at it tbf.

What's the proper way to deal with posters who have knowingly or (to give the benefit of the doubt) unknowingly flirted with right wing content/talking points and made dubious comments about Jewish children in the past?
In defence of the poster. I think they have quite binary thinking around a few subjects.

No borders and No War but the Class War means that they might see the idea of nations (whether oppressing or oppressed) as bad things all round.

I also seem to recall that they have had traumatic experiences of religion, so once again, all religion is bad and that takes prominence over the understanding that some groups are oppressed because of their religion (and colour).

Maybe they really are a cackhanded troll, but I'm more inclined to believe that they just don't do nuance very well. Maybe they'll get better at grasping a world outside of black and white?

Did that TOS-1 suffer a direct hit? Or did it return fire? Cos it looked like it exploded...
They generally explode quite bigly, so I suspect it wasn’t a direct hit, although if it had just fired and was empty then maybe wouldn’t go boom so impressively. Likely to have taken some damage from the blast due to the proximity though.

Not sure what to make of this exactly, but recently discovered that modders for the war-sim Arma 3 are already making reproductions of battles from the war in Ukraine for YouTube.

Quite a strange era we live in.
