Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus!

The SFA machine marches on. What can I say about them, if you don't know who they are you shouldn't be reading this forum. More psychedelic goodness, harmonic goodness, and general pretty weird goodness.

I would've agreed with a lot of that the first time i listened to it, but it just kept growing on me. Good analysis though.
Thanks! It was clearly a grower, that much was obvious, but I didn't have the time to give it all that much time.

Very surprised to see Justice so high- the album's ok, but no more. they come into their own live though, proper party DJs. Just much more exciting on the dancefloor than in my living room, IMO.

Another one I've not bothered to listen to yet. :( I didn't realise how much I'd missed out on this year.

Justice - ┼

Justice are a godsend to DJs. Their remixes are generally dancefloor fillers that are also (and here's the rub) damn good tunes. So it's no surprise that this album was voted for by a lot of people. Do I really need to describe their electro noise? Well, it's like people in Hoxton listened to a couple of years ago before they were all pretending to have been into dubstep before you were in to dubstep, but better.
OH PLEASE! They're fucking dreadful!
(Mind you, I only know that 'We Are Your Friends')

probly there best since Radiator, a work of genius and a worthy number one.

Jeffrey Lewis - 12 Crass Songs

This was my album of the year. Jeff Lewis is a genuine genius and what I love about this is that it made me (and therefore I assume others) listen to Crass in a whole new way. Go and get it, listen to it, love it.

excellent. a well deserved placing. :)

Shit, wished I'd voted and therefore nudged Jeff up a bit but I got alll confused about what was 2006 or 2007 or indeed 2008.
Dad to see The National so far down (again my fault; thought it was last year as that's when I got a copy).

it was my album of the year too - but i think the best we could expect was 8 tbh... most of the people who post on here are cloth eared gibbons... :D

Grinderman - Grinderman

Not everyone is a cloth-eared gibbon. The placing of this record impresses me - a great album, a nice minor deviation from the Bad Seeds recent direction proving that Nick Cave still has the capability for the nasty heavy blues that mark some of the finest moments of his career. Top notch!

Shellac - Excellent Italian Greyhound

51wbf%2BPHcvL._SS500_.jpg

Cover of the year! Now why anyone would want an Italian Greyhound is beyond me. They're all small and pathetic unlike the joyous longness of a common Greyhound. However, if Todd wants an Italian Greyhound and the others like it enough to name their excellent album after it, then who am I to question. What does it sound like? It sounds like Shellac, so the guitars go whuuu-clang, the drums go chickachickaduhduh and it sounds like angry angels throwing a party.

Whoops, forgot all about that one, i knew there was some Nick album and couldn't find it.

PJ Harvey - White Chalk

In which Polly has listened to Joanna Newsom and the like and knows she can do that. Gothic, in the Victorian sense, foggy like a moor in winter, ghostly and ethereal. Damn good.

4

LCD Soundsystem - The Sound Of Silver

41tC3W1JGmL._SS400_.jpg

Goddam how can LCD Soundsystem be so likeable... tune after tune after tune... jesus, this isn;t even anywhere near his best stuff and yet it's so moreish!

3

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

51Vbgm2e0TL._SS500_.jpg

Number one in 2005, there were only a few points between this and the number two vote. Arcade Fire have proved beyond all doubt that indie music doesn't have limitations. Epic, lush, rocking, experimental, orchestral... a great follow up to a classic debut.

2

Burial - Untrue

51Gag4JzSxL._SS500_.jpg

The first Burial album was AOTY last year, so is coming second a failure or a success this year?
