Urban75 Album of the Year 1994

Weird random fact:

This year you all voted for 21 individual entries ending in "tion". Never seen so many protections, communications, fictions, generations and snivilisations.

I rushed my list a bit, hope that doesn't leave me filled with bitter regret like when I left Mercury Rev out of my 2001 votes.

Well we have

16 voters
322 entries
189 individual albums

That's big. Nearly end of the year big.

Largely gen x forum plus a good, maybe even important year means everybody has an opinion.

So that's the bigger the bar the higher the score. And that doesn't say much other than that there's a fairly solid no.1 and a fairly solid no.2

Maybe a little more interesting is this pie chart.

So it's the two giants of ROCK and TECHNO dooking it out with a few scattered hip hop releases, a sliver of singer/songwriters and something called hiplife. What is hiplife??? Well!!! You will see!!!

The type of techno that you could dance to if you maybe had six legs. Great for aphids.

Tical was my second highest hip hop placing. I think it's as good if not better than any of the other first solo Wu albums, although Liquid Swords normally gets the critics' nod.

Amazed that Parklife is 39. I had it at 6.

That and Oasis were surely the albums everyone knew that year no matter who they were.

"PARKLIFE!" vs "Mayyybeeeeee" everywhere you went.

All the people, so many people, and they all go hand-in-hand, hand-in-hand through their hiplife?
