Urban75 Album of the Year 1994

I found that to be a bit disappointing to be honest. On the other hand I've found this Songhai/flamenco crossover that's much more lively.

Ketama, Toumani Diabaté & José Soto - Songhai 2

Yeah it's funny, that one with Ry Cooder won lots of awards, sold loads of copies but it's my least favourite of Ali Toure albums, must come down to personal taste. I like the concept of it though. That one you posted looks interesting, will try

The first two Melt Banana albums were out in '94. Which may have given the misleading impression they would quite prolific. But seven albums in the following thirty years following say otherwise.

First albums by two Japanese Zeuhl bands. Hundred Sights of Koenji Hyakkei and Bondage Fruit. Do be careful listening to these - listening to Slayer afterwards will sound light, good humoured and whimsical.

I've just discovered Arthur Russell. I think I vaguely knew about him. Anyway Another Thought is really good. Posthumous. Makes me think of Nick Drake or John Martyn.

Good album from the Necks this year. Aquatic. If you're not familiar (and you should be!), they do minimal almost ambient, repetitive, improvised jazz.

I dont think anyone has mentioned it but a very fine Orb album, Pomme Fritz, nice and uncatchy apart from a sublime opening number, right up there with their very best IMO

just digging about on discogs and theres also this ive never heard of sounds promising
FFWD▸▸* – FFWD▸▸

Collaboration between Robert Fripp, Thomas Fehlmann, Kris Weston (aka Thrash), and Alex Paterson. Fripp was a founding member of King Crimson, and the other three were all members of The Orb (though Thrash would soon depart from the group.) The group name and album title is taken from the initials of the four members: Fripp, Fehlmann, Weston, and D.A.R. Paterson (Alex Paterson's full name is Duncan Alexander Robert Paterson) and is a reference to the "fast forward" function on a cassette or compact disc player. The album peaked at #48 in the UK Albums Chart in August 1994.

proper ambient

Do start getting your lists together btw. Deadline Monday evening. I have @'s and I'm ready to use them.
I never get the @s. I think it only does five or six per post (there's a thread about it somewhere in the feedback forum. On meet up threads they seem to do half a dozen at a time.

People in the comments have said that the audio on this video isnt the album, and theyre right, Ive downloaded the album and its different - the audio in the video appears to be some FFWD remixes and random releases. I actually prefer the youtube one to the proper album tbh, which is still V. Ambient tripping-nuts stuff but some depressing minor chord odysseys which is very non Orb... i blame the guy from King Crimson :D

This is standing out as one of my favourite finds from this thread - having spent all this time just being familiar with Etc and assuming that's pretty much all the Jawbreaker anyone needs, turns out their actual albums are really good as well. I can see now why they have the reputation they have. Stupidly catchy.

celebrate the new dark age by Polvo was released in 94. It’s a mini album and probably their best world
