Bjork - Volta

Urban, I have rarely been more disappointed with you. How this one isn't even top ten I don't know. Quite frankly it's her best work to date, and the direction she's taken (making her work abrasive and militaristic) has refiltered her old stuff and made it even bloody better, as anyone who saw her at Glastonbury will tell you.

She'll never top Vespertine!

mods - any chance of an edited version of this thread featuring the Top 30 run down without commentary? All locked like for reference purposes ... :)
The ed did this last year, I'm sure he will again with enough requests/bribes :)

You say that, but have you ever actually dipped your fingers in the murky downloading waters?

I seem to remember you thinking that downloaded TV shows were all really crap pictures, rather than the DVD-quality they tend to be..
Someone gave me a downloaded DVD copy of The Wire and it was shite
Anyway - I can buy a whole series of The Wire for £30 and it comes in a nice case with extras - why download a crap copy on a DVD that you're only gonna lose down the back of the telly?

There's all sorts out there - I was given the first series of Hereos and was amazed at how good the quality was. I guess it all depends on who did the first rip / copy.

I'm with you on the buying thing though tbh, there's just something nice about having a proper product....

Fair enough - the ones I download are always superb quality...

I agree and I'd buy the originals if i could

Urban- thy taste hath not impressed me this year :(
In Rainbows at #1  it's an album with some nice songs on it dragged down by some miserably half-arsed attempts IDM-glitch cleverness. A bit like, ooh everything since OK Computer.
Still, I forgot Grinderman was this year, and Do Make Say Think (thanks for reminding me there, Flavour). And 12 Crass Songs passed me by somehow.

I seem to be the only person who thought Volta wasn't that good. Just didn't gell for me. If I was judging her on her performance at Glastonbury she'd win hands down, but the album wasn't one of her best imo.

As for Radiohead, its ok, by radiohead standards.. but it really isn't that good is it. People have just got all misty eyed that Radiohead have released an album witrh some actual pop songs on it. :p

At least there's no breakcore in the list

Anyway, I'm not that keen on albums - the singles are the best tracks from the album and nearly always, the non-singles are crap - so an album is basically 2 or 3 good tracks (which usually end up as singles anyway) and 6 or 7 boring/rubbish tracks - so I'm all for buying best of compilations :p

Even if it was only "ok, by Radiohead standards", it'll still be the hands down winner for me. But it's not, it's exceptional, and every time you hear it it gets deeper and more powerful. I <3 that record.

Unforgivable lack of The Field, Twilight Sad, Acoustic Ladyland, Iron & Wine.

And shite choice for no.1, naturally, considering how Sound of Silver is a much better album

Yeah, I'm pretty sure From Here we go Sublime is last year...
But I agree about Twilight Sad and Iron & Wine.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

Another one of those bands who have previously featured on the chart - Urbanites love 'em innit. Electro-folk oddness that isn't really either electronica or folk, charming without being twee, bloody clever without being unlistenable. A damn good band.

Yes Yes Yes Weeeeeeee!

So, the top three consists of an album that wasn't as good as the bands first, something arse achingly dull, and fucking Radiohead.

And Bjork didn't even make the top 10.

Fucks sake :(

It started of so well :(

But there are still quite a few there I have never heard of and so shall enjoy downloading.

Thanks Bluestreak.

PS. not that I have heard the Radiohead album, but for me the number 1 album this year would be Mark E Smiths & Mouse on Mars 'Von Sudenfed'

and thanks for proving that a 'Top List' isn't the worst idea in the world ;)

But there are still quite a few there I have never heard of even, and so shall enjoy downloading very much (and maybe even buying an old style CD:eek: ).
