The Ashes 2015

Haha just saw this on his wiki :D

It's always a bit disappointing when one team doesn't turn up for the ashes but this has been such a bizarre series that it's certainly been entertaining.

England's fielding has impressed though. Even if the Aussies had managed to bat properly I still think we would have won.

You know someone somewhere in the world is hearing "All that bloody fuss for THAT tiny thing!"

Lovely sportsmanship to round it off. I have mixed feelings about Cook. I still can't see him as a strong leader like Nas or Vaughan but hey, he produced the goods.

I can't help but feel delighted that the Aussies are all turning on each other now. I also, however, do feel a bit sorry for Clarke. As captain Australia whitewashed us, won in south Africa, the west Indies and won the world cup but now they've been trounced he's suddenly an affront to everything the baggy green stands for. The amount of Aussies I've heard criticise the English press for turning on their own and now look at the ruthlessness of their press!

There's no way Clarke deserves the shit he's been getting, he'll rightly go down as an all time great of the game.

I heard Darren Gough on the radio yesterday speculating that part of the problem with Clarke's batting may be in part down to the Phil Hughes incident, Clarke and him were best mates apparently. Clarke started without the neck guards then put them on then removed them again, it was clearly on his mind. I wouldn't be at all surprised if his confidence is completely shot, it certainly looked that way.

Ah that makes sense. It's a bloody shame if that's what it's been.

The problem with Clarke's batting has been Broad's bowling at Trent Bridge, which was so good that it retrospectively worsened his performance in games that were played weeks or even months before.

Clarke's a dick.

Silly twat gave it full beans every interview about this whopping chip on shoulder genuine hatred towards all things English and not flinching from the same sort of 'broken arm' language (and everything that's wrong with Cricket (sledging) as a sport IMO). Nothing about the series delights me more than him going home with his tail between his legs. Fuck him. :D

Well he wouldn't expect any sympathy from England fans, I just think he deserves better from the aussies given his record. He's going to have a proper old fashioned slog at the Oval I reckon.

No doubt, though it probably just shows the fractions between the camps. There seems to be a split between modern/nice/losing and oldschool/brutish/winning individuals. I think the former are going to come to the surface more over the next few years, before some old face comes along and reminds them what it really means to wear the baggy green and halts their polite losing streak :D

Anyone know where I can get highlights from the Edgbaston test? I missed it and failed to record it while on holiday.

So, who do we reckon are the 8 aussies in the squad that Punter thinks will never play for Oz again after this tour? He said Harris but he's already retired, so I reckon you could probably list a few.

Haddin
Clarke
Siddel
Voges
Watson
Rogers
S. Marsh
The other spinner, the one they nicked from Pakistan

Anybody else whose days are numbered?

Peter Siddle might have some cricket left in him. Voges has just been given a central contract by Australia so that would suggest that he's not going anywhere for the time being.

Even if nobody's in paticularly good form at the moment, butchering the team all at once would be pretty drastic. England rebuilt themselves gradually after the last ashes in Australia, and they kept some of the senior players even if they were lacking in form, notably Cook and Bell. That worked out pretty well for them.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, it's been good stuff at home this summer but we still have to see how they play elsewhere. Winter could be pretty tough.
