The Ashes 2015

88/3 at lunch.

One wicket too many, perhaps, but England bat deep. Not a disaster, and root appears to be playing a different game from everyone else.

Joe Root middled it,took the sting away with a wet ball, well played i reckon, this session should be Aussies way tho,Lyon will get some

Well, I found today's play reasonably satisfying.

Let's hope it doesn't go to shit - I reckon a draw is all too feasible on this wicket.

Anyone else?

I don't think there will be many draws in this series. Slow, dead wicket and England still scored at 4 an over. I expect Aus to do the same. Warner, Smith, Clarke, Watson (lol) won't hang about either.

It's hard to tell, as Boycott would say, whether this is a good score until the other lot have batted. There was swing today. I only saw the highlights, but I wasn't too impressed by Aus's bowling. Starc in particular, I think, will go for plenty of runs this summer. And Johnson just isn't the threat he is in Aus.

But if Haddin hadn't dropped Root on 0, I think this would have been a very sticky day indeed for England. So hooray for Haddin and his lead boots. We're still right in it. On such moments whole matches can turn. :)

They didn't even realise it was a drop at the time, no reaction at all from Haddin or the slips. If he'd caught it, would they even have appealed?

Root said he would have reviewed. Even he thought it wasn't a catch.

Ooo that would have been even funnier. :D Rogers lbw to a Swann beamer that was missing the stumps funnier.

I didn't see the highlights, listened on the radio.

It certainly was a lucky drop :D

didn't something like that happen with Root a few years ago? i remember a blazing innings from him early in an Ashes series.

Yep.

Lords 2013. Went on to make 180-odd. Dropped on not very many by...

Young master Haddin again.

:D

If they can hurt Johnson this game then I think that, combined with Harris' loss, could swing things strongly in Englands favour.

Johnson's record when Harris plays is much better than when he doesn't, if England can get atop of him in this game as well that will be a big blow.

You're right about the par score very difficult to say, though with Aus having to bat last I think 400 would be at least competitive.

Overall England edging day for me.

They were talking on the radio about bringing Siddle back in for some consistency now Harris has gone.

I don't hate Siddle. He's a worthy trier. But it's not exactly frightening, is it? :D

Anybody listening to TMS, Boycott giving Haddin a load of stick, "Can't expect him to get more than one out of two" :D

Yeah that's well played from him, can't blame him for getting out like that when he's got 77 runs by having a go at anything remotely hittable.
