The NRA isn't as powerful as it once was, but the gun industry is more powerful than ever, and it has many kinds of tendrils in the media - favourable YouTubers, TV, radio, politically aligned publications etc.

Hard to imagine any constitutional amendment on guns being passed in any of our lifetimes - it'd take a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress plus ratification by 38 out of 50 states.
Out of the 27 amendments, only one was passed in the last 50 years - the 27th amendment, which bans members of Congress from making laws that would raise their salaries during the current session of Congress, was ratified in 1992. It took 203 years to ratify it, which would probably be an optimistic timeline for anything changing the 2nd amendment.
