The American mass shooting thread

So it's okay to get killed or maimed for life if it wasn't intended? Conversely I might prefer to die as the result of a deliberate act and not as a meaningless accident.
Clearly it's not okay to unintentionally kill someone, but then no one has said that on here, probably ever. If someone intentionally sets off with a gun, with the aim of killing as many people as possible, then that's a bit different to the person who accidentally crashes their car. Surely you can see the distinction?

It's not a particularly helpful distinction when you've just lost a close relative or been told you'll never walk again.

No it's not. Especially not to those who've lost a loved one. But that's not really what this thread is about.

Is there a separate grief thread on urban?

Rural Mississippi is also probably the last place in the entire US that would be willing to accept any kind of gun ban - not only is it the poorest part of the poorest state in the US, where hunters are most likely to be hunting for food instead of sport, there's an infestation of feral hogs so fierce and numerous that it might be the only plausible argument for civilians to own AR-15s.

there are boar all over the south, esp. the swampy south. my favorite story is

In the late 1980s, two young boars attacked an F16 fighter plane attempting to land at Jacksonville International Airport in Florida, causing its destruction.

(which may not be right, per this well-written article: $16 Million Jet Destroyed After Colliding With Pigs On Runway)

there are stories from SC and GA in addition to MS and FL.

It's funny how 2nd amendment types always miss out on the bit that talks about a "well-regulated militia". That sounds to me like an allowance for regulations such as mandatory safety training, adherence to safe storage and handling procedures, and the necessity of insurance in the case of an incident.

No that means something completely diffrent. As any gun humper will explain if you let them.

They're just getting started

A sad sign of the times.... I went to get groceries today and found an armed guard at the entrance. He looked like an off-duty cop making a few extra bucks and was in city police uniform, complete will all of the usual doodads on the belt, including mace and a gun.

KANSAS CITY (KCTV) -- Hy-Vee is introducing armed security guards to stores across its eight-state region, including in the Kansas City area, the grocery chain announced this week.

The Hy-Vee Retail Security team will be “specially trained to defuse situations and equipped to protect the safety of both Hy-Vee customers and employees,” the company said in a statement. “The officers have been through training designed by Hy-Vee retail security leaders alongside law enforcement partners.”

The company said it already has armed security in several stores, and plans to implement the new plan in its other stores “in the near future.”

Hy-Vee released a video along with the announcement, showing b-roll video of security wearing badges and guns while walking Hy-Vee’s aisles and interacting with customers.

I suppose it was only a matter of time since a lot of mass shootings have happened in grocery stores. I'm told they're rolling this out in all their stores.

Let's hope the guards don't go postal
