The American mass shooting thread

They would still have a shotgun or an ar15 in the boot a shotgun will make a huge hole in the door especially loaded with buckshot.

it's much harder to shoot at kids if buckshot is flying in your general direction😠

If you've not read that "manual" yet, I urge you to do so.

tbh I think expecting anyone - teachers, caretakers, local cops without a significant amount of specialist training - to be able to go up against someone armed with battlefield weapons is pretty far fetched. I mean, some of them might find reserves of courage and tenacity, but pound to a piece of shit even with a handgun in the desk if someone walks through the door with an automatic weapon, most people are just shitting themselves and their gun is useless. Lots of soldiers with months of training can't cope with going up against these kinds of weapons, how can anyone be expected to?

I have some sympathy with that, but not sure I could live with myself if I was armed and on the scene and understandably expected to do something, and then stood by.

when the last time you had a ar-15 waved in your face

it like the whole adage of " everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth"

just because you could be in shape, normally willing or maybe even a little training

does not mean your body will react and you just end up hating yourself for the rest of your life regardless

Sure, but if I was the person meant to be at least trying to do something, then I think I’d deserve whatever self-hatred was coming if I stood by.

And I’d be trying to get to where I could shoot the fucker in the back with no warning. The only thing in my favour would be hearing.

has the idea that the cops killed the kids during the breach, not already be suggested

blame everything but the guns

That is always a risk. I’m not “not blaming the guns” - that particular situation is really fucked up.

I’d feel the same about the police standing by during a mass shooting with an illegal weapon in London.

i'd say the british armed cops are better trained

american cops are better equiped does not mean shit

only praise you see me give them

on a basic case , how training is given

arrive at a active shoot scene

engage the shooter, semi automatic fire retorts

guidelines rush in

Depends what you mean. 95% of UK cops get no firearms (use) training.

im not saying shite

imagining how i would of reacted in a same situation is not my take

sounds like trump i would of run in their unarmed

It’s nothing to do with “imagining”. They are not expected to rush in suicidally but they are expected to actively interfere with the shooter once on the scene.

This has been an explicit expectation since Columbine.

Let’s see what comes out re: precise timelines, but the police have already admitted serious mistakes.

TBF they were - according to the reports they had him contained in that room and were exchanging fire with him.

Anyway, criticism of the police doesn’t take away from the fact that this situation got started in the first place.

One thing is clear, preaching to the Americans about guns will do nothing and in the years since Columbine the kinds of weaponry and armour that can be legally bought has been cynically extended by those who profit from it.

There have been talks with NRA members who would be very accepting of things like better background checks, mental health screening etc. things that would at least make a difference, but the rump of the gun lobby digs its heels in because it sees any concession as a step toward total disarmament.

If it’s possible to stop even a few mass shootings by working with the more reasonable elements and bringing them onside, I think that has to be worth it.

As things are, it’s all just going backwards.

Since the shooting, the Liberals will be submitting a bill that would stop purchases of revolvers and ban toys that look like real guns.
If the ndp votes with the Liberals, it could go through.

There are exemptions (sports, etc) and grandfather clause.

"We need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action firmly and rapidly it gets worse and worse and gets more difficult to counter," he said.

The handgun freeze would contain exceptions, including for elite sport shooters, Olympic athletes and security guards. Canadians who already own handguns would be allowed to keep them.

Not sure if it would pass, the liberals keep trying to ban the gun that was used to shoot up a Quebec university decades ago.
