The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

Labour seems to be doing the usual "not bothered" strategy in my constituency. Everyone else, bar Reform, is local and Labour parachutes in a candidate from Ruislip into Carshalton and Wallington. Even the Reform candidate is closer (Reigate) than that. I realise they're not going to win this seat, but it's just a poor showing to not bother finding a local candidate. It's not like there aren't Labour members on Sutton council.

I think the problem is that after being moribund and almost completely inactive for years, the CLP that flourished post 2016 was Corbynite; London Regional saw them as simultaneously irrelevant and untrustworthy. Added to which they are so incompetent that, through schism within the Labour Group of 3 :D in a recent by-election they recently lost one of their councillors to the vermin!

No wonder Regional imposed a rookie loyalist.

Leicester East has been blessed with not one but two ex-Labour MP expellees on the ballot, as well as the actual Labour candidate.

Keith Vaz trying to make a come back, plus Claudia Webbe the current independent MP since she had the whip removed this parliament.
Galloway must be feeling left out.

Some comments on Vaz from a local socialist Cynical, Divisive and Self-Serving: Keith Vaz Returns to Electoral Politics and He Hasn’t Changed One Bit

No surprises in Worthing West - Sir Peter Bottomley is defending his seat, I'll be voting for Dr Beccy Cooper (Labour), other choices - LDs, Greens, and Deformed.
Electoral Calculus gives Labour a 65% chance of winning Derbyshire Dales which is my new constituency as opposed to a 76% chance of winning Derbyshire South from which I have so outrageously been torn so looks like Labour it is.
I've never heard of Sarah Dines but apparently she is a strong right loon who is/was a big fan of Loopy Liz the Lettuce so can't be a bad thing to vote against her.
I have told Eldest Q who still lives in Derbyshire South that she needs to get her arse to the polling station for the first time in her life and vote Labour as well in order to avenge her father and drag her husband with her who will vote for whoever his wife tells him too.

Anyone else watching tonight's mass debate?

Bailed just before the hour mark. Liked the audience, and was slightly irked to agree with Stephen Flynn on pretty much everything. Mordaunt won’t have won any new voters by shoving her finger in Rayner’s ear. More watchable than the Sunak-Starmer horrorshow. Has anything exciting happened in the last 25 mins?

Watching it all via a YouTube stream. Infinitely better than the ITV effort earlier in the week.Does piss me off we are subjected to Scottish political imperialism in the form of the SNP being included.

I see Mordor said Ratboy was 'completely wrong' and 'very wrong' for his D Day desertion. With friends like these...

Sunak is just laughing at the shit joke he could easily pass it off as laughing as if to say don’t be so ridiculous. But it’s not a deaf blow or some massive gotcha either way.

She's gotta win her seat if she's gonna be leader of the oppo
Suspect we might see a few other leading tories distancing themselves out of self preservation. Be a bit difficult for Cunt though. And a larger group just about giving up.
