Rugby World Cup 2023

Can they leave Ainscombe out now?
If Biggar is fit I thin he'll start again, Gatland doesnt care about sentiment, If the game plan says Bigger starts that what will happen. Doesnt matter tho really, both world class, and both can kick well.

100% Biggar starts in the knock out games. Gatland will want to play a controlling game. Possibly see Lydiate starting in the back row too for his defensive abilities

Listening to Eddie I'm not sure he was watching same game as rest of us.
I thought he was about right. Yes, Wales scored straight away, but after that, Aussies looked lively, playing a nice, open, inventive style. All went to shit when they refused the three points to go 10-9 then messed up the line-out. Didn't come close to scoring again after that, but they were in the game up to that point. Second half, they were a shambles.

As George Gregan would say, "Four more years!", Campese must be having kittens at how bad this Aussie side is.

Great game by Wales, good to see Anscombe get a nearly full game.

Real hard to judge that game. Wales were evidently being coached, and almost entirely sitcking to, a very clear gameplan. Thought we were level-headed, clear in thought and action, clinical, monstrous in defence and highly effective at turning territory and pressure into points. Faletau was just beyond good, ably backed up by stellar performances by Wainwright and Morgan. Gareth Davies was uncannily, almost suspiciously good, taking the right decision and executing ably every fucking time. Tompkins a revelation and, alongside North, forging a centre partnership actually capable of bringing players onto the ball, changing the point of attack and penetrating the line. Anscombe rejuvenated from the creaky, tentative crock of Portugal into a varied creator.

Which leads me to wonder: are Aus that shit that they made a load of never weres and has beens look world class? Time will tell, but in the meantime, 'single Economy class to Tokyo for Uncle Eddie!' 😂😂😂

I think Davies was the biggest surprise for me. Which smacks again of sticking to the gameplan having been told to never deviate on pain of death. "They do a, you do b; they do x, you do y. Don't fucking make it up as you go!" And Australia had no answer to it, couldn't break out of the patterns that Gatland had clearly identified. Then just melted down under the pressure after that lineout fuckup.

Be interesting to see how that stands up against agents of chaos, although they did well enough against Fiji eh? There is clearly something about Gatland and Wales that just works. Semi-final v Ireland ahoy? I've never been more glad to be wrong about my group-stage prediction :D

Defence was incredible as well, that'll stand them in good stead.

One thing for sure Eddie has probably finally put union out its misery in Aus.

I don’t follow the Southern hemisphere game. Why has it gone so wrong in Australia?

Public school based, and lack of super Rugby and international success. Plus League is the national sport.
It lies a distant fourth behind league, Aussie rules and cricket. Possibly even fifth behind football these days.

It's way behind football in terms of number of regular players. It's behind football in New Zealand as well, mind you. Generally more people want to play football than rugby. I guess it's harder to be an occasional rugby player.
