Pro Cycling 2023

I didn't know COVID was still such a thing. I don't know of other sports being hit like this, but other sports don't have teams all squashed up together for 3 weeks I guess.
I know loads of people who’ve had Covid in the past month including myself for the first time. Seems to be a mild strain compared to previous ones but it’s just not in the news any more.

Didn't bother watching this stage today and just switched over from 4 Jours de Dunkerque to find out Tao crashed and is out of the race :(

I gather it's raining at the finish today; the wettest Giro ever?
I came in just after the feed zone and am guessing that Gee did not get his own nose bag but got fed by his team mates which makes sense especially bearing in mind the crash at the tdf a few years back. Is this something which is a thing now and all teams do?

Domestiques have had that duty since time immemorial no?

Very much shortened today, I think it's basically the last 75km of the previously adjusted course.

19 teams apparently asked for it to be shortened.
Notable opponents to this decision were Caruso and Healy. They are who I’m cheering for from now on.

Of course they couldn't be arsed to move the finish, so it still has the descent they were all worried about.

Yeah hopefully will be rooting for Healy for years to come, unless he turns out to be a total prick or something.

Just the the highlights. Poor Pinot
Carthy is coming up on the rails 🤔
Sadly I am now working every day for the next week until 15.00. 😓

Was entirely his own fault, while his style is very entertaining it’s not exactly efficient :D

Also, if I ever meet him, I'm definitely suggesting we play poker.

'Ah merde, look, look here are my cards, it's not fair'

I mean fantastic ride by the guy, but talk about telegraphing.

I hope Caruso or Kamna go crazy and light up this dullness sooner rather than later. Jumbo think they have it won, Ineos think they probably can still win it. . Would be funny as fuck if neither those two conservative teams won.

“A lot of riders from the 80s and the 90s are criticising the riders in the peloton… what is your point on that?”

“A lot of other things happened in the 80s and 90s that we don’t do now as well which we’re proud of. So they can say what they want.” — Geraint Thomas

BOOM

The end of an era, the missile retires

Just ridiculous numbers when you see them like that. 379 top tens from 1259 race days is all the more impressive when you think a lot of those will be GT stages where he rolled in with the grupetto. Would love to see a breakdown for the purely sprinting days.

Social media “this years giro is boring”

First 30km of todays stage “hold my beer”
The formation of the breakaway has been the most exciting thing this Giro. I think the race might be remembered more for the likes of Healy, Gee, Denz than whoever wins it.
There's still time I suppose.

Also Sivakov abandoned. Ineos really understrength now.
