Hours of nothing punctuated by just shitty crashes today, won't need more than the highlights.

I believe he lost the rear a bit on the white lines, recovered, tried to get back into position, then Dainese contacts as he's moving up, whereupon Cav loses control and goes into Fiorelli, who slides along the barriers to 8th while Cav enters the gymnastics triouts. That was where commentary landed anyway... I think probably can be written up to 'all's fair in love and wet sprint finishes' rather than any particularly bad riding.

The rider who was stretchered off at the finish (Vendrame, AG2R) is riding again today incidentally... Separated shoulder.

Kinell, I had that after falling off on black ice once and I was off the bike for six weeks. It hurts.

Also not allowed much more than a couple of paracetamol right? At least since the Tramadol ban (G was before that, but still). Though my post was more that, of the reasons to be stretchered off a sprint finish, separated shoulder is one of the better ones.

It is easy to forget just how utterly batshit what these people do is when you're just watching the GCN stream or whatever... Like it when they have bits of on-bike footage from the TDF, gives more of an impression of speed, noise etc.

Well, we shall find out today.

He was in the grupetto for most of the stage iirc, and the peloton went pretty hard to catch the breakaway, so 18 minutes down is probably not much of an indication.

e2a: yeah, looks like he finished with grupetto...

Possibly the dullest GT I can remember.
You'd have thought someone would at least have tried to see if Remco was injured. After the ITT he'll be near three minutes ahead but I still think it'll be an interesting last week as Ineos, Bahrain. and UAE all have multiple options left.

No. 4 out with COVID from either 3 or 4 teams. Still quite a thing then.

They had Jonathan Vaughters on (EF manager, also managed Dan Lloyd with Cervelo) and discussed this a bit... Teams don't actually have to remove someone with covid these days, but generally do just because it's liable to spread through the team, and because it's obviously a lot easier to test for than e.g a cold or the flu. Also may be a political/collegiate aspect there... Can read current regs below if you're really interested, or watching another boring stage.

Ben Healy going for it out the break, up a stupidly steep hill is around 50km from the end if anyone's catching up. No idea whether it'll stick, but it's a nice little moment.

Rob Hatch doing his absolute best to jinx it; 'with 20km left to go, we can say with near absolute certainty that Healy, who only <hyperbole continues> will take the stage'

Dude has 2 mins mind you, superb effort.
