Pro Cycling 2023

I think Hatch is sponsored by Duolingo (ed. "other apps are available" - C. Kirby) as I'm considering Italian.

Meanwhile Sam Bennett is a complete clown. Bora have invested in possibly the best lead out train and today put him in the perfect position at which point the pea that acts as his brain dictated that he should deviate from the centre of the road to the barriers. Hopefully gets a DSQ.

Yeah, he clearly opens up in the middle and spends a couple of seconds sprinting in that position before his rightward expedition.

Irony is the guy he blocked was Groenewegen who the last time he tried that almost killed Fabio Jacobsen

I hate all of them. But especially Hatch and Kirby, both of whom I would happily never hear a word from ever again. I quite liked Magnus Backstedt when he was on for a while.

Dan Lloyd should do the lead more often than he does. Magnus is an expert rather than a lead but yeah he was good.
The difference between Kirby and Hatch is that Kirby has had a life whilst Hatch's only extra-cirricular activity seems to be trying to pronounce names about halfway as good as Jose Been does. A dreadful nerd with an ego. The worst kind.

Bennett does seem to squander a lot of chances, I suppose it’s not as easy as it looks but still.
JV are looking really strong for the tour.

Looks like Vingegaard has sewn up the Dauphine with over a minute on Ben O'connor. Surprised Carapaz couldn't stick with him. Will be interesting to see how Jai Hindley performs in the mountains.

Seems Colnago have really sorted out their TT bikes, so no big Jumbo advantage there any more.

Genuinely never clocked UAE rode Colnagos. I pity AG2R a bit as the last campy holdouts...

Sidenote; check out this absolutely batshit TT ebay listing:

I mean n+1 and all that, but fucking hell.

My God. Imagine someone bought that as a job lot and brought them into my shop for a service. Literally all the bikes we hate working on the most 😂

Well it's fun, but offers little insight.

Also someone needs to keep an eye on Christoph Roodhoft.

Bafflingly they didn't even cover the Vin stopping for Pog thing. Presumably to emphasise competition, but that event is surely a dream near-end moment for a human interest docuseries type thing. They do cover Jonas' near-fall, and that's in the preview bits (iirc. I was drunk. Obviously. how the fuck else would I get through an 8 part series in one evening? :D I also baked bagels), which makes it even weirder.

I caught up on the Critérium today, having missed the highlights for Thursday and Friday.

The highlight today was Campenaerts, with his TT bodyshape, going over the penultimate mountain first and giving the crowd a salute as if he'd won the stage.

I dont know if anyone here can help me, but I'm trying to find out what time the team presentation is for Le Tour on 29th June. I now its at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, but cant find out anything else. Ive got the official tour guide and app, and nothing at all in either of them.

Conclusion from Dauphine, if Tadej doesn't show up Jonas gets it.
Adam Yates possible 3rd?
All the runners up from this week were essentially saying they were going for third.

UAE look like they've got the second strongest squad, although that may not count for much if Jumbo control everything.

It may not be finalised I suppose, isn't listed on the GCN app yet.

Nice win for Girmay in Suisse today, tidily beating Van Aert and Demare in a long sprint.

Anyone watching TDF: unchained on netflix?
Defo worth a watch. Fairly comprehensive, Pinot's goats, what more do you need:p

I wonder why they chose Steve Chainel to be the general commentator. Perhaps he does alot of French tv? He's never actually raced the TdF?
He tells it like it is so no complaints. I'm glad they haven't just picked English speaking participants.

Apparently a joint venture with Box to Box (Drive to survive) and Quad productions who are French and <gives gallic shrug>. So yeah, seems they wanted to go in on the Frenchness.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pity there are only 8 episodes.

I’m pretty sure that with just 2 weeks to go they would have timings worked out to the second!

You'd think so, but it ain't there and, unless they've just dropped it, I'd guess they're doing some last minute shuffling of schedules and managing of performers etc. One-off live productions; organised chaos at every budget. May be totally wrong of course.

I can't see a time anywhere. Isn't it normally early evening?

Incidentally, my money would be on vingegaard for the TDF. He was a league above the others in the last 3 days the the CDD. On the Friday, the rest of the field appeared to give up, preferring to fight over the places.
As for Pogacar, he has barely raced since he had surgery on a broken wrist a few weeks back; his form must be questionable. I guess he could ride himself in to the tour.
The big issue; will Cav ride and will he bag himself a record ( on champs Elysee maybe) before retiring?

I'm hoping so, as i thought it would be on the friday and I only arrive on thursday, driving down from Bordeaux. I know its at the Guggenheim but no other info.
Mrs Tag never, usually fails, with quests like this. She is normally a demon searcher. So far, she has failed...so great question, thanks
