Premier League footballer avoids ban for writing ‘I Love Jesus’ on LGBT armband

Like all homophobes who pretend to use religion to further their bigotry they only adhere to the bit of the bible that is anti the gays.

Note how he chooses to ignore Exodus 35:2 to ply his trade on the sabbath…

“For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a day of sabbath rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it is to be put to death.”
For someone who's supposedly a religious Muslim, Morsy sure doesn't seem bothered about being sponsored by a gambling company. But the rainbow armband? That's a step too far. And he was born in England, he doesn't have the marginal excuse Gueye does of potentially being in trouble back home (like Puddy_Tat mentions).

It's always about the gays with these people.

Same.

The entry of football into the culture war - with all of its amoral, saturated in neo-liberalism and dead eyed consumption - has been hilarious.

Remember the rainbow laces and armband that the Engerland team perfomatively wore and then immediately abandoned the minute there was some heat from the repressive Saudi's who were hosting the world cup?

Remember the multi millonaire's lecturing us about inequality when their own employers use zero hours contracts to exploit those serving food and drink at the ground and about which they have fuck all to say?

Remember their 'no room for racism' campaign supported by 'allies' from some of the biggest corporations on the planet who exploit black workers in the real world each and every day?

Does anyone seriously think wearing an armband is some sort of stand? Or that some religious crank writing on it says anything?
And the anti-DV campaign, when loads of footballers AND managers (yes, Pep Guardiola, I mean you) liked that awful Memphis Depay post supporting Mendy. And Partey is still a regular starter for Arsenal. And loads of them are useless deadbeat dads who cheat on their wives and girlfriends and abandon their kids. And Joey Barton holding up the Her Game Too sign and then going after Eni Aluko and some random female goalkeeper, endorsing Andrew Tate and blaming women for his sons not being able to play football in future. Not his daughter though, fuck her.

It's all performative. It means nothing. Kevin Campbell, may his memory be a blessing, said Kick It Out needed to do more than just gestures. He was right. At least Neville Southall exists, I guess.

Loads of these super religious footballers are hypocrites anyway, Alisson bangs on about how Christian he is but supports Bolsonaro and cheated on his wife. Danny Sturridge is a gambler. Yaya Touré got done for drink driving. And so on.

You speak for yourself Sunshine, however I can see an advantage in making every player perform in plain white kit, it could make the game more interesting if no-one was sure who was on the same team.
Under communism, there will be no distinctions between people on the basis of team membership, or position on the field of play. The centre forward will be able to be a goalkeeper of the opposing team, and vice versa. Furthermore, there shall be no distinction between players and spectators.

"There are people on the pitch - as is their right. They think that capitalism is over, and indeed it is."

The Ipswich captain who is a ‘practising Muslim’ just refused to wear it. No doubt picking and choosing where he draws the line - seems he definitely doesn’t like gay people and wants that to be clear!

Kharma rained. Ipswich 0 palace 1.

And what happens to white clothing when it gets wet with sweat or rain 🤔

I think forcing people to wear symbols of any kind is stupid. For example, I won't wear a poppy because it implies support for UK forces who are currently helping Israel to slaughter children and raze hospitals.

And clearly for some people, gay people existing is a crime akin to slaughtering children and razing hospitals, so a rainbow armband is as heinous a symbol to them as a poppy is to me. That's a shit attitude, but forcing people to pretend that's not how they feel achieves nothing but hiding the scale of homophobia and intolerance.
Make it a personal decision as to whether someone wears any particular symbol.

Immediately takes the wind out the “Jordan Peterson, I’m being oppressed” crowd

And helpfully signals to everyone else who the arseholes are

According to their website, the values of Carphone Warehouse haven't changed since they first opened the doors to their first store in 1989, which means they are potentially missing out on 35 years of social progress.
You're making the mistake of assuming there's been 35 years of social progress
Or, they were just really ahead of the game back in '89, and quite frankly have been waiting for everyone else to catch up, thank you very much.

I mean, I'm not saying it's likely. Just, y'know, another of the various possible scenarios.

It's not just Man United tbf. Sheffield United, Palace and Ipswich too. I mean, I hate Sheffield United but I'd feel just as angry if it was a Wednesday player doing it and heaven knows some of our ex-players need a smack round the head.

I went on one football forum to see the discussion about it and quelle surprise, lots of 'I'm not homophobic but I'm sick of having it shoved in my face' and 'the poppy isn't political, it's not the same, they DIED FOR YOU', which is news to James McClean and Nemanja Matic.

Btw

What would have been the outcome if he had simply refused to wear the armband? Or is that standard procedure?

Not sure Premier League football is a great moral or political bellweather either, nor are the fans who lap it up necessarily.
