I think he and some of his colleagues (and their supporters) were emboldened by seeing Trump lie and behave like he did repeatedly, brazenly, and not seem to get held accountable. As much as the tories have always been "the vermin party" boundaries have been crossed beyond anything that's happened before in the past few years.

I'm not sure Boris Johnson has friends as such, only people he's temporarily affable to in order service his ego and/or bank account.

I don't think the committee verdict, assuming they call it right, will alter too many people's thinking. Those who think he's always been a lying cunt will gain further evidence to that effect; others will console themselves with, "They're all liars" or other whataboutery.

Slows the process down, content and context could probably get misread or interpreted by the committee, and others, lessening the 'hit' on Johnson.

At this point, fundentmentally, hes fucked, its just a question of how fucked he is.
