However, on BBC Breakfast news at about 6.45am, a very bizarre report about events kept referring to Israeli forces "trying to control" the people they were beating and killing. It took me a while to understand the report. It was an outrageous and sickening example of bias.

In what other circumstances would storming and aid ship and beating and killing those on board be called "trying to control" them?

Israeli military boarded a ship in international waters using soldiers carrying guns.

That's where it all went wrong. What happened afterwards was merely a consequence of that first action.

I doubt that they will be able to escape scot-free over this - after all, this wasnt a block of flats / school / UN warehouse in Gaza that they can just blow up on a flimsy pretext of self-defence, this was a Turkish-flagged ship in international waters and they had absolutely no right (legal or otherwise) to board it when they did. The Turks, and the rest of NATO, and even the yanks, know this, hence the language used.

The least that will happen is that the Israelis will be pressured into paying damages to those involved and (especially) Turkey, they will apologise for the raid (no doubt spun domestically in the same way as the Second Lebanon War was - ie bloody incompetent rather than bad) and loosen - to one extent or the other - the blockade.

It was claimed by you that there were demonstrations and even riots by Israelis. You claimed I was ignoring those demonstrations. I asked you to give me examples of the opposition you claim is occurring and it turns out not to be an example at all but examples of Arab Israeli and Palestinian opposition all of which is entirely to be expected. I take no pleasure in this. I wish for nothing more than to see 10.000 Israeli's saying "no more" But I don't see that and denying it does no one any favours.

Last year 10.000 people demonstrated against Israeli invasion of Gaza. I posted a speech by Uri Avnery on this thread. They were driven off the streets and physically attacked by mobs of "patriots" and the speech was never read.

Israeli's have shown they can mobilise in opposition to militarism. There is a strong tradition of refusenicks in the military, 100.000 demonstrated against the invasion of Lebanon.

Yet the fact remains, there is no opposition right now. None. The Israeli population is behind Netanyahuh. And you can deny that all you want and you can smear my motives for asking why all you want but denying this fact solves nothing.

Prove me wrong. I invite you too. I really want to be wrong. But posting demonstrations by Israeli Arabs or by foreign activists and Palestinians does not constitute evidence.

I think the overwhelming majority of Israelis are now tied to the reactionary ideology of settlement and aggression and ethnic cleansing as advocated by Netanyahuh. I think opposition is tiny and demoralised and afraid. I think Israeli's are now behind this government and behind the actions of the IDF both in Gaza last year and on the oceans yesterday. I don't like this fact any more than you but denying it is pissing in the wind.

I think if you want a comparison it isn't with Britain in Iraq it is with Britain in Ireland or the Falklands where reason and debate are consumed by the hysteria of patriotism and paranoia and fear.
