Israel/Gaza: UK crackdown and backlash

I may be quite naive, but I've become more and more puzzled over the last year over why exactly both UK governments have been so forgiving of the Israeli government's actions. I understand the Hamas attack last October was bad, but it doesn't appear uniquely bad in the whole context. I understand that British firms make lots of money from selling the Israelis arms. I also understand British PMs have long been terrified of veering from the American line on such global policies.

But I don't get why they've picked a side in a conflict which has no likeable characters (I'm referring to the governments of Israel, Iran, Lebanon, Hamas, Hezbollah and others, not the citizens those groups purport to represent).

Hezbollah have mps and ministries so they actually do represent people. There are no likeable people in the UK govt btw

Just WTF do the Met think they are doing here? Absolute fucking clowns:

Disgusting by the Met. He speaks the truth. Israel cannot kill its way out of the genocide it is committing. It's over but too racist and too stupid to realise it.

In the past there was a reason.

Take the Suez crisis. UK and France found an ally in Israel.

I also find it a question I cant answer.

Cold war is over. Britain is no longer an Empire. So what is the rational foreign policy reason to have this close relationship with Israel?

They are the policeman of the middle east (it has been said many times before) for the vested interests of the west. Not in any way a fair and unbiased actor. However that may very soon unravel; subsequently the UK and the US etc may end up with nothing save for a very large bill.

There is a vid of the arrest:

🧵 Met Police have arrested Israeli academic Haim Bresheeth after he made what’s been described as a ‘pro-Palestine speech’. It’s reported the retired Jewish professor was detained for alleged support of a proscribed organisation after he said 'Israel cannot win against Hamas' 1/
