Glastonbury 2009

That Rolf thing was fucking crazy, we got out of there because it was getting a bit scary.

We went to the Pyramid and Tinariwen played to a fairly empty field. Surely they should have known this and swapped them over?

We couldnt get into rolf, it was absolutely mental. I can completely see the sense in developing the Jazzworld stage as a 'third main stage' but the Rolf Tinariwen thing wasnt at all well thought through:hmm: we were gutted not to be able to see Rolf, one of the issues with the Jazzworld stage is the limited access it has for those entering/leaving the area. Add to that the vehicles they were attempting to drive through the area at the time and it was a disaster waiting to happen. Im amazed someone wasnt hurt

I dont honestly think that the eavis mob would have expected rolf to get that kind of turn out.. i saw/seen (whatever the fuck it is) him play in the avalon tent a few years back.. same scenario.... smalll tent, but ENTIRE field was packed right round it. they probably knew they needed somewere bigger. jazz world holds what, about 10 - 20 at the max thousand. id happily be corrected. maybe they thought that would have been enough... under estimating the pulling power of rolf..

incidently anyone see any special guests.. I never saw shit, then again i couldnt see two feet in front of me most of the time at night.

When I was chatting to the police who were using our 'backstage' for rest stops, they said they had to close Jazz/World for Rolf, for safety reasons.

I won't steal William's thunder, but him and Debs got a good spot to watch from ;)

I went down and saw half of N.E.R.D and they were brilliant.
I didnt head to Park for the whole festie ( and not sure quite how I didnt as we walked all the way to the flags and greenfields lots!) but Im told their special guests were amazing too. I must make more effort next time but the combination of mud, heat and the draw of cider and the greenfields to mooch in was too much this time I think:)

I saw him at a very busy Pyramid stage on a friday morning years ago so they knew he would be popular.

He was genius, full of ego and when your band sounds as good as his did! he can warble on all he likes! superb stuff from brucey!

not putting you in the same boat, but when i did finally get up to see him (watched the king blues first after work at the queens head). nipped over to springsteen he sounded fooking amazing. what a voice, what a true rock n roll showman! anyway, to the tits that were booing round about me.... why didnt you all fuck off to another gig? its a big fucking place... its not bruce springsteeens fault you dont know all his songs to dance to, sing to and all that.... there was a lot of people just wantin a singalong when they never knew the artists music.. ach, just my wee mini rant.

I caught about the last hour of the show and loved every minute of it... his voice is something else.. Born to run made my weekend, never thought id get to see the boss live. oh as did the new york house disco in trash city on friday night, as did the glade on thursday night, as did the stone circle on tues niight........... sadly sunday night at glasto was a little of a let down. tho we had free beer, time we went to get anywere it was just the wanky silent disco that was going to be left open.........

Madness. madness i tell you :)

anyways, had a ball of a weekend.... im still blurry. gotta get it together for work....

anyone catch boycey up in shangra la on saturday night at 3am? i was busy with a transvestite at the time :)

I agree with newbie, tho never saw a whole crowd roar thang. including at the prodigy... but im sure it happened.. somewere.. ... its all relative tho innit. if it had been radiohead or coldbore on the mainstage i wouldnt have went near it, i rarely do go near the main stage at all anymore if i can help it...... i did miss status quo... but from the video footage i watched it looked as tho they got the main stage rockin.

ALso rolf harris filled the jazz world stage....... the paths leading into it were totally jammed right up. :) cult kindof legend stuff at glasto aint he.

I didn't hear any booing for springsteen

Personally I couldn't go anywhere as I was on the disabled platform stage right of the pyramid. If I could've I'd have left to see Jarvis Cocker.

He was bound to attract more people than you can fit in the jazz arena. It was very bad planning IMO and they were lucky there wasn't any serious injury. The fact there wasn't was mainly down to the good nature of the crowd but it was fucking hairy for a while. I got out as soon as I could.

Probably some stupid hippies thinking it's an anti american protest or something. They should go wash and inbreed in the green fields...

I wonder why the BBC never show footage of the disabled platforms? When Madness were on I thought it might collapse with the amount of people chairdancing in their wheelchairs :D

that crowd in ?2000 was the biggest I've ever seen at the pyramid! A solid mass all through the tents up to the bank, and down past the cider bus.

So they knew he was too big for jazz

I'm not watching it again to find out, I've already lost too many hrs of my life to springsteen. I'll take your mates word for it.

yeah you can hear it on the bbc2 footage from the website. trust me there was, i only had a few pints after work.. caught the king blues (sounding the best ive ever heard them) then nipped along from the queens to the pyramid for last hour of the boss.

There were lots of arseholes booing., i am guessing they have never seen a video of or heard the estreet band or indeed heard any new springsteeen stuff. thus cant singalong .. it felt like many wanted a saturday night singalong and not a WORLD CLASS singer and guitarist.. what makes it most annoying is that i was trying to enjoy it... you dont like it.. fuck off. theres a load more stages... i didnt want to "fight" my way down further after arriving so late into the set. that would be rude... instead i put up with the eejits for a few songs.

Probably people going 'BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCEEEE!!!'

Does sound a bit like a boo, tbf.

nah, defo booooooooo!!!!! from around were i was, i only had to turn round to see a few people doing it and shouting fuck off etc. I wasnt on any drugs at the time... :)

Sunday night's BBC coverage is really worth watching, btw. Not because of Blur or anything, just to see how pissed Mark Radcliffe was. :D Lauren Laverne's attempts to contain him were admirable. :D

"Have I already said that?"
"Yes, yes you have"

:D

heh, have only seen a little bit of that so far - was skimming for the Nick Cave set last night. Mark Radcliffe had this big daft grin on his face :D

I suppose it woul be a bit smug to point out that I don't have any kind of comedown at all and I can remember everything :D

Drugs. Kids, are you doing them or are they doing you? :(

Unless my sense of direction is wrong, that'll be the bolt that took my radio show off air at half 7 on Thursday then. Big flash apparently (didn't seem it myself), and everything electrical went dead. Bit scary looking at it now...
