Glastonbury 2009

have to say you (not you obv . . . well maybe you :hmm: ) don't half talk some crap!

Hah, not me then. Probably. I'll stick with the tunes then this time, assuming I don't bring a load of tunes in the wrong file format again this year.

how do i get a glastonbury car park ticket???

see tickets aren't selling them anymore it seems.

Also at what point do i need to show a proper ticket?

I wont have one untill i get to the car park and meet up with madz.

You can buy a car park sticker from the stewards when you get there (£10) but only if you can prove you have a festival ticket so I'm afraid you're going to have to get hold of your ticket before you get to the festival.

Announced earlier today... Climate Camp will be in Dragon this year. Some space marked off for their set up, the rest remaining as public camping. Looks like there'll be entertainment alongside the education/awareness stuff.

I'm more than a little pissed off about this. Every year the amount of public camping in the south east corner is nibbled away more & more. Why on earth can't they set up their camp in one of the less popular fields? :(

There's a case to say it should have been in the West, which could do with more attractions.

Was a chunk of Williams still gone last year, or was that sorted out?

Dunno I didn't camp there last year. The "fire lane" up through the top part of the field has restricted camping space there for a few years and the fencing off of the top section of Williams for crew camping hasn't helped either. Last time I camped in Dragon was the year I worked (2007) and so I got onsite on the Tuesday. Just as well because by 11am Wednesday people were camping in the hedges!

I've never seen the attraction myself.

Nor me.

Cockmills remains the best bet for me and daughter - and I have never known it get flooded.

electrogirl - I did not mean to sound stalkerish :(

Apologies if I did - I may be confusing you with mysterygirl

there is a VERY tentative plan for some of us to camp if not actually together, but adjacent in Cockmills.

But I'll understand if no-one wants to talk to me now....

we're in cockmills :) with the little one (actually utilising its close proximity to the kidz field)

Yeah it's brilliant for that.

Do they still have that lovely soft play, sandpit area shaded by a big old parachute?

My babes loved that when they were tiny. :)

There's a nice shady play space for tinies in Green kids too - and this year we WILL need the shade.

Positive thinking.:)

Indeed. What's wrong with the Greenfields or somewhere like that? The Greenfields (to me at least) seems like a much better location to bring climate change awareness.

Why take up public camping? Wasn't it Mendip Council that complained of the gradual erosion of public camping and crew taking it etc?

It was sorted out last year. The massive LV expansion that was last there in 2007 was gone. There was just a tiny strip around the edge, which is pretty much the gap between superfence and heras inner fence (fire lane I guess, although maybe crew camped in the small gap, will have to check my photos, the different years sometimes blur together).

well looking foward to glasto, feck not long now and we will know if we are in for rain, mud, sunshine, dust, monsoon or all over the week!

the best years ive had were definately the early 90s... a few sunny ones i remember (i was going to say well).. prodigy on other stage, underworld on otherstage.. tho due to the erm climate. spent almost the entire prodigy show watching the sky light up iwith strobes as i listened to the bass going bbbbbbboooooooooooooooooooom! quality.

enduring two of the mudfests more recently, i really cant be arsed with a muddy one. It takes so much out of glasto despite what i hear people say.. make the best of and all that. You dont get to see half as much or just sit and chill were ever you feel like..

its a fucking lottery! :)

I think in some ways Climate Camp intrinsically means public camping. It's the nature of what they do. And if you buy that view, there isn't really anywhere in the core Green Fields they can go.

Dragon is bordering Green Fields, but then again so is the monster Pennards, where the reduction in space would be a drop in it's ocean.

Personally I'd have put them on a major junction in the west, so everyone coming in from PGD would see them. It would be a pleasant little distraction what is otherwise an endless stack of pure camping fields.

The west idea is great, they'd certainly get a lot more exposure. Not so many people will make it to Dragon.

I kinda see what you're saying about Climate Camp, but if it's space roped off for their activities per se, I wouldn't call it public! :)

Right well I'm quite keen to meet some of youse anyway.

But nooooooo! to thursday meeting up, cos we're not getting there til Friday morning.

Plus, where's the cider bus??!

Shame you can't make it til Friday claire, is there not any way you can change that to earlier? Such a shame to miss the Weds abnd Thurs buildup :(

FWIW I think we should hang on to the Thursday Cider Bus met (cos thats seem to eb what most people posting here have agreed on), but maybe make an additional one for Friday too?

Weather signs looking quite good on today's updates .... noticeable improvements for now. No doubt there'll be a few roller coaster twists and turns in both positive and negative directions over coming days and next week though

Yes I am a sad losser .... :p

what are the odds of at least someurbanites not being at the cider bus for almost the entire of wednesday and thursday?

I don't think i have ever walked past there and not seen someone from here.

Yeah, I'd agree, keep the original meet up. We can't make Weds/ Thursday cos of the kids school and not having got permission. Ah fuck it. Maybe we should just take em out Thursday anyway and drive down Wednesday night :D

Where is the cider bus, I demand to know! And what time Thursday?

I would also love to try and get to a meet on Friday or Sat , I will be around on the Thursday but as I usually meet up with old friends who only see at Glasto it is always tough to get away .

Let's do a meet on Friday too. Although how the fuck you'd know who was from urban god only knows. Does someone have a baby eating anarchist flag? Or are you all cool enough to have each others mobile numbers or what?

I have only ever briefly met 1 urbanite in 7 years ( William ) I always try at Glastonbury because it is probably the single most attended event in the calendar , shuffled around the cider bus and Dragonfield muttering " Urban 75 " under my breath but never been successful , may be too shy , perhaps should just get up on one of the Cider benches and yell it out :D

Its a little like Muslims and Hajj , at least once in your Urban lifetime you have to make the pilgrimage.
