Glastonbury 2009

Posting from the library

Ignore that NME 'story', please. It really is the laziest and most sensationalised bollocks imaginable

It's a near identical recycle of one they ran last year, and also it bears a strange resenmblance to a Times story from very recently.

This 'June monsoon inevitable' is a cliched cobweb dragged up by the mainstream media every year there's some mixed and changeable prospects being shown for June.

Right now as paolo says, it's still all too early to say for weather. Update to the BBC 4 weeker yesterday was broadly positive. And if you log onto the forums at netweather.tv, JACKONE's latest updates to his Glastonbury forecast blog are mixed but with a slight, I say slight, tendency towards better rather than worse.

I will start to properly take notice of forecasts** no later than the start of next week. Still very much in the balance for now

**(as opposed to just wasting time checking them daily out of obsessive weatherman interest  :p )

Also, for those checking that Metcheck link for 'Glastonbury Festival' posted a bit earlier, the general Metcheck forecast for Glastonbury or Shepton Mallet is more detailed than the festie specific one -- once we get into next week and the general forecast begins to show the actual festival period, it will show their prospects for the buildup as well as the Weds to Sun only.

In any case, Metcheck is computer modelled and based on something called GFS, which
[a ] is notorious for fluctuating more than the other models
[b ] is frequently in disagreement with what the Met Office output shows.

JACKONE's synthesis of different meteorological models over on Metcheck is generally better and more balanced. After next week anyway!

I've just had my first wave of proper Glasto excitement.... oooo cider bus cider bus cider bus :D

Mine has been around for a while (strange that!! :D ) and is building up more and more and for similar reasons.

Will approximately double (or more) after we get news on what shifts we're going to be doing, after this weekend .....

Got my ticket this morning, which is different than last time when we got given wristbands when we met up before going on site. Anyone know if this is a policy change for this year?

Still though, had a momentary smile at getting a ticket saying 'staff/performer' on it, before slapping myself round the face.

Oooh! Does that mean mine will be waiting for me when I get home? :D

Did you have to sign for it or 'owt? Just hope my flatmate was in (and got up  )

Your beloved Guardian appear to be equally blameworthy

I've not got my ticket (through work) or my daughter's ticket (normal punter) yet. I know it's too early to think about panicking, but I want them in my possession NOW!! :D

i havent got mine either. though i'm having them delivered to my parent's address so hopefully there will be no problem getting hold of them, what with them both being retired now!

Might be, dunno if this was a specific thing for where I'm working or whether there's some generic ticket service for festival workers generally. Didn't have to sign for it, just dropped through the door!

My mates haven't got theirs for Isle of Wight and they're going thursday.

oooh im trying hard to get seriously excited, and i am.... the weathers always a worry... pain the arse if its muddy. but as im working for the wbc this year, i dont know what artists im going to miss yet never mind see!

going to be a lottery.. theres a couple i would hate to miss... many more id love to see tho

ive worked for wbc a few times before.

never at glastonbury. Ive been around 10 times, over the fence etc in the 90s and paying into a few since the super fence. Its now priced me out as a punter :( but looking foward to a different experience.

edit to add - got me thinking, i dont think ive used any of the bars before apart from the leftfield. are they mostly around areas of stages? can you hear whose on?

Um, There is one to the left of the other stage, one to the left of the Pyramid stage. One or two in the middle of the shops.

That one to the right of the Jazz World... Can't think of any more.

Saw a map online recently that had them all marked on, was surprised by how many there were. Can't think of more than you've listed there now tbf.

There's about 25 bars in all, maybe more if you count the specialist places that are only allowed to sell one kind of drink, such as Pennard Organic Wines.

WBC had about 20 last year, although it'll probably a little less this year.

If you have Google Earth, mapski at: http://www.glastoearth.com

Now Firky is too poorly to come I'm going to be on my ownsome so I guess I ought to start thinking about camping. I'm a bit wibbly about camping as a lone female (and one that may be still on crutches) so is there a girl gang I can join and camp with?

I'd say come and camp with us, but we're in our own bit with work. but I'm sure you'll find a girl gang soon :D

And I thought I was done with Glasto...

It has a way of dragging you back.
