Glastonbury 2009

I know the TV can't convey what it's like to be there but when you've been to 10 Glastonbury's before you can get a pretty good idea what it's like from the coverage. You can read between the lines a bit - get an idea which bits you'd've enjoyed / which bits you wouldn't. My main negative thoughts about Glastonbury come from the fact that the last one I went to was the worst one I'd ever been to.

Moose - that tent was perfectly adequate. It just wanted letting out a bit to compensate for middle age spread. ;)

I'd wait for confirmation before making assumptions. They've all been rumoured sure, but my usual practice is to be instinctively suspicious of 'friend of a friend' or 'sources close to' lineup rumours.

Yeah, they're the only acts coming I've heard -- them and no-one else :p :D

I sat next to an Eavis on New Years Eve , a bit closer to the horses mouth than most rumours :p

Just had a quick lurk on eTesticles & it seems there are reports of Campervan tickets already having sold out. I know a few people who will be a bit miffed if that turns out to be the case. :hmm:

Have you definitely decided against this time then?

I do understand why people move on, but I think a goodbye for all time would be a shame .... as you know, and as steev and Miss Hissy Fit said, it's not all about big name/Main Stage headliners and what's on TV. There's been plenty of changes since you last went, not all of them for the worse by any means. Just might??? we worth giving the old monster one last chance?

And gambling on the weather!! ;)

Maybe see you at Endorse It whatever.

It is a shame, but I just can't justify the cost now. Yeah I know it's several days, lots of bands etc, but for the total cost of glasto (including food, travel, time off etc) I can do both Off The Tracks and EndorseIt. Seeing as I go to festivals for the fun with mates, and the music is kinda incidental, 3 weekends is better than 1 :)

Fair dos, we'd be hard pushed to justify the full costs (especially with me being out of employment now) if we weren't working for our tickets -- which luckily we will be again.

We'll be back at Endorse It this time anyway! :)

aagghh!! better not be

e2a: £65 - jesus! that's not bloody cheap

I take it you two are sorted yourselves though?

Staying in a van at Glasto has never really appealed what with hiking up & down that hill & queueing to get in every day. Plus I've not managed to persuade Strange-Fish that Glasto should be on her 101-things-to-do-before-you-die list yet so I've only paid my £50 deposit so far.

you have to queue to get in if you're in a campervan? what a pain in the arse. how far away are the fields then? hmm, might well take a tent as well, for hanging out in in the day, and maybe for sleeping in if its nice enough

The TV coverage didnt show anything like what it was actually like though... really. I came back and wondered whether Id been at a different festival last year.

Of course everyones idea of the best time is different but honestly, dont rely on the beeb to show you what its like- they didnt IMO

The TV coverage is crap, they show about 2% of the festival... I want to make my own coverage one year and sell it to channel four for the 3am slot... ;)

You might find this useful

See "How Do I Get There?" for the bit about Campervans. I've done a whole load of updates and added loads of new photos since last year but the person who hosts them for me hasn't got round to loading them up yet.

Ive got some of my balance.. will need a couple of pay days to be able to stump up the rest but thats ok :)
I did debate taking my caravan but have decided the tent and stuff is gonna be fine.

Madz- i have a flag and various other stuff which stepped in as a meeting point when my mobile phone busted last year. I intend putting U75 on it this year. Peeps can find us then- I hope I dont really need to cart it around though- maybe one of the kids will oblige!

The kids seemed to be well up for flag-carrying last year, although the tendency to put it down when they'd had enough was a bit disconcerting - one minute you know where you're headed, the next........... where've they gone?!?!?

No, none of it is. As far as Im concerned it's my summer holiday. Otherwise it's off the agenda completely.

Ta for the links tort, most helpful. Or not, seeing as there's nowt I can do about it now, tickets and campervan ticket being bought n all.

I can't wait 'til oxfam open up the stewarding places - it's a nightmare watching everyone buy tickets and not actually knowing for certain whether I've got a ticket.... I'm SOOO excited already.

Calm

Not be for a while yet, March or so. I look forward to doing this again.

This story from today's Western Daily Press should be of interest.

Looks like Michael Eavis is postponing the next Glastonbury fallow year from 2011 (the year for which a gap would generally be scheduled in the four Glastonburies then one fallow year pattern) to 2012 :

Western Daily Press said:
Regular Glastonbury Festival-goers who were expecting a year off in 2011 may have to adjust their plans, it has emerged.

The globally-renowned Somerset shindig takes a break every few years to give organiser Michael Eavis's Worthy Farm a chance to recover. But the organisers have revealed they are now hoping to extend their current licence and have their next 'fallow' year in 2012.

This is because there will be another major event happening in the UK at the same time an Mr Eavis feels it would make sense to avoid a clash.

The Glastonbury guru said: "The thing is we've got the Olympics happening in 2012 so they'll need everything like all the loos and all the security and all the trains. It's a job to get enough trains now and we need more trains because we're trying to increase the public transport to Glastonbury.
"So we have decided to take 2012 off."

The festival currently has to update its licence with the local council every few years and Mr Eavis is hoping the authorities will agree his proposal makes sense.

"Of course, it will be Mendip Council permitting, because we've got a licence until 2010 at the moment," he explained.

Oh well there you go -- three more festivals to go rather than two, before the next gap :D

Well you can guess what I think you should do :)

Oh no....
I thought I had come to terms with the fact that I wasn't going this year, but I had an epiphany moment last night and realised I cannot stand the idea of not going.:(

Are there any earlybird tickets left does anyone know?

Eek! Small bit of panic there when I went to pay the remaining balance and it said there were no car parking tickets available on the website!

Fear not people, don't panic ... either hold on till Monday or call up. There ARE car parking tickets :)

Just seems to be yet another problem with the website :)
