Glastonbury 2009

Oooh excellent! That'll be really good for all those young people the festival is attracting these days!

has anyone else got any realistic rumours? on eFestivals it says madness, the specials, and rolf harris amongst others! ...and franz ferdinand

Had it confirmed by someone very close that Neil Young , Blur and Springstein are all booked , they also said Tom Petty was confirmed .

I'd wait for confirmation before making assumptions. They've all been rumoured sure, but my usual practice is to be instinctively suspicious of 'friend of a friend' or 'sources close to' lineup rumours.

Yeah, they're the only acts coming I've heard -- them and no-one else :p :D

Quick question for any old schoolers amongst you: where exactly was the travellers field in relation to today's site? My first Glasto was 92 and so I missed out by a couple of years.

I've heard conflicting reports of it being in William's (I have vague memories of there being a multi-level rig in William's in 92 and reading that Underworld played their first gig there over the weekend?), west of Pennards or where the Glade is now situated (was definitely traveller-heavy there throughout the 90's, after the convoy was stopped being allowed in for free).

The offical facebook group has asked members for their requests because the bookers want to see who the popular choices are

Some good suggestions on there in amongst all the teens who went for the first time last year and all want kings of Leon back again:rolleyes:
Might be worth peeps expressing their views?

personally I'd love to see Kylie headline after she couldnt in 05

After my first in 1984, I failed to get to Glastonbury 1985-1993 ( at self ) so I can't answer for the late eighties and early nineties myself, but pictures on Dave's Traveller Homes site gives pix from 1989 and 1990 (if you search around-- there's loads of pix on there, Treworgey too). And others here may answer for 1992 and 1993 and other years.

In 1994 and 1995, I was there both years, there were definitely a fair few Traveller groups gathered in Williams, Undles Ground and in the long field leading into the ex Lost Vagueness/present Shangri La area. Some sound rigs about then, but not too many as I vaguely recall. But I also seem to remember Traveller vehicles being dispersed across quite a few different fields in those 2 years.

In 1999 and 2000 there were huge concentrations of Travellers' vehicles and rigs in a couple of the outermost East carparks, and that was party central. I'm told that was the case in 1997 and 1998 as well, but they were both mudbath years so I never ventured out to the furthest reaches of the site

Others will be able to say in better detail ....

Glade area, pennards and what used to be lost vagueness were all used for stages and rigs at various points in the late '80's/early 90's. I recall RDF, I think, and the Planets, of course, appearing at these.

So, can someone explain to me what's happening with tickets now? I've just done the registration. Are all the deposit tickets gone?

I'm going to quit handwringing about money and go :)

If I can get a ticket, obviously.

you've done it?!?! fantastic! :D :D :D

keep your fingers crossed that my job is on - there's no reason why it won't be, but I hate to think of anything as a sure thing :D

I've already got my lift sorted :D

Will we make urban flags so we can find each others tents?

I'm going to pretend to be dodgers and get in with tanky :)

It's January and I've already paid the deposit for my ticket (I'll pay the balance on the 31st January) and booked my transport down.

It all seems oddly premature and organised. I'm used to running around in a flap in April!

Anyone else feeling strangely sorted?

paid full price on day one, even bought camper ticket.,.. so erm just need campervan now... lol

Ive got some of my balance.. will need a couple of pay days to be able to stump up the rest but thats ok :)
I did debate taking my caravan but have decided the tent and stuff is gonna be fine.

Madz- i have a flag and various other stuff which stepped in as a meeting point when my mobile phone busted last year. I intend putting U75 on it this year. Peeps can find us then- I hope I dont really need to cart it around though- maybe one of the kids will oblige!

looks like I'm off again this year.

Me sister 'accidentally' got two christmas presents off me dad, so she has generously used the cash to treat the other family members and has just paiud mine & mrs belboids' deposits.

as she's just got a campervan and really really wants to see blur and springsteen - who are both definitely on, obviously, in her opinion - we just have to go it seems. I can't object

Blur and Neil Young are two good headliners but I'm still decidedly unenthusiastic about it all. Last one I went to was good fun but not a patch on others and what I see on the TV these days / read here doesn't inspire me much.

I might try one of the smaller festivals again this year. I enjoyed Endorse-It a lot last year even if the Saturday was a washout. I dunno, probably just me getting old - camping and stuff fucks me off these days. I really think I'd absolutely hate another muddy one now - I've done enough wading through muddy fields to last me a lifetime.

The TV coverage didnt show anything like what it was actually like though... really. I came back and wondered whether Id been at a different festival last year.

Of course everyones idea of the best time is different but honestly, dont rely on the beeb to show you what its like- they didnt IMO

Yep
Before replay-tv my dad would video the coverage and every year I'd think that.
There are a couple of bits on the Julien Temple film that come close... but I guess it's hard to capture the essence of 5 days hedonism, sleep deprivation and partying on film :)
