Glastonbury 2008

I love the way Julien Temple does the Joseph of Arimethea bit at the beginning of the film with grainy b&w footage of men in cloaks climbing the Tor. Cut to Michael in his Landrover saying "Yeah but none of it's real though"! :D

It changes year on year. How old is she? if she's quite young and he's approaching from the right side of site he might be able to blag his way to drop her off by the coach station at gate A. Then you'd just have to walk her through wristbanding.

Otherwise there is a drop off point along the top road but you'll have a walk outside the festival to get to it. I ahve a feeling it was at the bath and west last year and then there was a free bus to the bus station. so you could get that out and back again.

your other option is to arrange to meet somewhere like tesco's off site and brave the traffic to get back in.

wiskers

Thanks mate, very helpful
The girls ( shes bringing her friend) are 12 and 13 ( but 12 for the purposes of blagging them both in!)
But I reckon if MrFit said 'look, these girls are vulnerable, will be finding their way through strangers, big crowds in the dark etc'
Then a steward may well feel kindly towards him.
Otherwise..( ERK).Ill see if we can meet somewhere on the top road and walk them back in.

I dont really want to move my car so anything far away is probably a bit of a no no

in that case i'd get him to try his best to get them to the bus station or as close to the main gate as possible - and if that fails you'll have to free bus it to the bath and west.

You can leave the site and go get them if you want?

It is my reluctant duty now to bring you the very recently posted update to JACKONE's Glastonbury Festival Weather Forecast blog, hosted on the forums netweather.tv

Sit down with a strong drink or a coffee before you read perhaps -- not a pretty sight at all. At this stage!
(Oh and please forgive his technical meteorological talk -- he's a professional!)

BUT do not lose hope -- he will now be updating every day until the fest. With some time/scope for improvement, and for that High Pressure area he talks of to move nearer and sooner. Maybe.

 :hmm:

What I posted over on that blog tonight in appreciation of JACKONE's work and efforts -- drawing on a few scant crumbs of comfort ....

He said it was a 2 last year.

*sigh*

I think we have to assume that its going to seriously piss down. I am geared up for this now.

I've not paid this year for precisely this reason so I can just take refuge without feeling like I should be getting my 165 quids worth.

Its a shame because its spoils what is a great festival.

Against my better judgement I clicked the link in William of Weatherinfatuation's post :p

Looking very wet on the Wednesday as the main rain area pushes through, this turning showery for Thursday and Friday. Then gradually turning more settled as we move into the weekend the ridge of High Pressure pushes in from the west.

Sounds pretty much how it turned out in 2004 which was hardly debilitatingly muddy until the Sunday when it really did piss down. Still far too early to start giving any credence to weather forecasts imho. :hmm:

Right! Thanks so much
Ill see how its goingf weather etc wise and se eif its better for me to leave or Mrfit to drive down and get them.
The school is ( on a non glasto day) 20 mins drive from the site!
It seems daft if I can get in and out to have him make a 3 hr round trip!

getting out wont be an issue i shouldnt have thought - getting in you might have to queue and be re parked further back in the car park.

or

you have a fortnight to perfect a really good catapult!

The shrieking really wouldnt be good....;)
Ill defo think on the parking/reparking thing, Ill have all our stuff unpacked by then, it will on;y be her freinds gear we have to shift

I'm still excited about my first Glastonbury

You just wait! :D

Camp wisely (up hills away from bogs and walkthroughs)
Take the right clobber (good boots, waterproofs and layers)
take bin bags, tarps, some rope and gaffer tape (and a tent!) and you will be sorted.

:)

I agree in principle, some twists and turns in either direction still possible, although I do think we're running out of time for a majorly favourable, High Pressure dominated change to be honest (I've been studying the detailed synoptics so that you don't have to).

BUT as forecasts go, JACKONE's blog (next update due tonight I think, check the Netweather Blogs subforum on the forums at http://www.netweather.tv ) is up there with the best, most likely to be accurate. JACKONE did some very Glasto specific forecasting last year as well, and from within about 3 weeks of the fest, he was scarily, depressingly accurate ...

But yes a 2004 may happen -- at the moment, on current synoptical projections, that would be a GOOD scenario ..... :(

My main fear is next week. Downpours then, and the site will be muddy before we even arrive .... :hmm:

Sorry to be a gloom merchant folks. I've been trumpetting all year that on the balance of probability we were due a really good sunny festival this time, but it doesn't look like thats going to come of despite being OWED!

I'm reckoning any switcharound (currently pretty unlikely) in prospects has to happen within the next few days. Once we get beyond about next Wednesday or Thursday and the forecast is still saying shite, we're screwed, probably.

<stiff upper lip>

<packs strong boots, etc.>

<catches little boat to Dunkirk singing 'Pack Up Your Troubles ...' ... >

(I'd be delighted if my pessimism turned out wrong, mind, and would happily eat humble pie!)

Good to hear....

You'll have the time of your life. ;)

- In response to WoW, I'd better go and buy some wellies then... To go with my boots, trainers and sandals and barefeet... ;)
Bloody rain....

To dilute the gloom of my previous post!

Yeah that's true, new people (and older school ones) who are up for a great time and a party and experiencing loads of class acts, can always find it at Glastonbury.

My hate of rain and mud is exceeded by my knowledge that we **WILL** have a fantastic time

Just have to work a bit harder at getting about, and at getting more fukked to overcome mud-downer-ness :D

WOW, you know all these weather posts are a bit
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

What will be will be, whether you worry and cakker on endlessly about it or not. so it rains? so what? so its sunny, so what?

Its Glastonbury, not the national weather anorak championships!

*imagines WOW sat at the stone circle all weekend closely observing his barometer and charting cloud formations and precipitation( usinng an empty pint cup)*

....and the post of the thread award goes to LilMissHissyFit.
:D

I've just put my wellies in a sink full of water with full lemonade bottles weighing them down. We will see tomorrow morning if they're still dry.

top tip, this: thankyou. i've only worn my current wellies once and have no idea how comfy they are. they're from a charity shop so i don't even know if they're any good. can't really afford to buy more boots, though, so lemonade bottles it is.

i've never been to a muddy glastonbury before. crikey. all part of life's rich pattern, eh. in 2000 i didn't even take a tent. and this time i have to think about ropes and tarp? ropes for fucksake! i struggle with remembering my toothbrush and wet wipes! this is going to be hilarious. :D

also- i have an actual phobia of muddy hills. should i buy some waterskis and start negotiating with the shittruck men to haul me up to my campsite behind them, do you reckon?

I quite enjoy them - saves me having to do weather geeking myself :)

Its going to absolutely hammer it it down, we all know it now.

Nothing to be done about it unless someone has a Glastonbury sized tarpaulin and a lot of tall poles.
