Glastonbury 2008

Showers of any type wreck a glastonbury...

Not sure where to camp this year - North side is alright away from babylon, but south side is just cooler - Tort - will you save a space on pennards for me? I'll be there Thursday evening... ah, I've just thought of a problem with that plan... Maybe I'll just camp where I can see a space (or behind the farmhouse in infocamp).

I'm going to have to try and do a lightweight glasto as I'll not have a car on site for the first time in a few years - I think I may have to leave the fridge at home this time... How long can a pack of bacon remain safe in proper hot festival weather?

Bacon is already cured when we get it. So quite some time. Still remember to cook it properly

Can always get a coleman extreme and fill it with ice. Those babies keep ice for a week at 32C external.

INdeedy... remember- you can freeze bacon without any deterioration happening, its safe to eat etc.

Freee vaccum packs of bacon and they will keep in your coolbox:) Value bacon is usually in vaccum packs. Some butchers can vaccum pack nicer bacon too

As for cockmills I can see anyone minding, its not like you want to camp there to spoil the peace is it ;)

dunno tbh, bees always organised the location of camp urban and he aint going this year.

Cockmill is family camping (they were going to change this but I don't think they did in the end. Several people are going there but not together (unless we already know each other of course). It's quite a nice space and not as mad as some other parts of site 'cos of the family oriented nature of it.

Is someone without kids allowed to camp there? I may have to kidnap a kid on the way in if not...... :D

'allowed' yes

'encouraged' no

depends what sort of weekend you want, we get away with it because we're all working and dont drink at the tents and stuff, we're very quiet.

If you plan to be wild or are likely to get stressed with screaming children then its not for you.

Basically you will probably be stopped at the gate if you arrive after the gates open, if you can blag its then you may get in. You have to bear in mind its not a very big space and there are (hopefully) even more families than ever.

I presume the rest of urban will be camping vertically as normal in Dragon.

none of our group have kids, though some are related to each other. it's more a state of mind tbh

I'm going on my own which is why I'd like to camp with some Urbanites, but if I am on my own I may drink a bit at my tent but even I'm not that noisy when Im alone :D

Anyway better go, Im off to another festival tomorrow, leaving early, not finished packing stuff yet (and I've been off work all day!). I'll look back in on Monday, when I get back.

I was a little concerned about the seeming lack of Urbans going to Dragon, and I was briefly contemplating that we defected (as early arriving crew) to join you lot at Dragon, but I've just bolded the reason why we won't be after all.

Nothing against you lot or anything, but screaming 8 am kids? We don't 'do' kids (and do do beer) so NO WEH!!!! :hmm:

Dragon it still will be for us then. Any random Urbans wanting something near Shangri La and Trash City and the Green Fields and Stone Circle, and who are able to get on site EARLY on the Wednesday, come up and camp with us ... we will be there from the Tuesday :).

There are still other options than Cockmills for Urbans ... join us at the Dragon if somewhere more 'lively' than Cockmills sounds more appealing! It is hilly there., and quite a walk from there to some parts of the site, but those distances will be the case almost anywhere you camp ...

Well, Glastonbury Festival has finally defeated the touts - the tickets are now so worthless that they can sell them 6 at a time in HMV, like the old days. :D

This is a Good Thing!!! Ther fact that indecisive late chaotics can still go ...

You're only saying they're worthless because you're not going :p

Those who haven't been 'put off' by whatever factor, remain the hardcore who will still be upferrit!!! :D

Oh god it is isn't it? I don't think I can cope with all that filth all over again... I lost 4lb and went deaf in one ear after last time

SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!!!!!

The weather is still giving me grounds for optimism. Looking like a dry one this time round.

Sunray just did, Cakes.

I can only hope he's right, and there are SOME grounds to support his optimism as well as some other contradictory indicators too, prospects are still all mixed up right now.. I'm on a 50/50 knife edge myself ATM in my thoughts, between mudbath and solid ground ...

Helpful forecast to follow in a moment ...

Is there a Camp Urban this year? I'd like to camp with some peeps, is (almost) everyone heading to cockmills now then?

In the age of the mobile phone, this isn't as essential as you may think.

Many many times, I've gone back to the tent, any hour day or night and there isn't a soul there, even though there has been 40 people camping together. Some times in the morning there is the odd person smoking a spliff, but there is no big camp fire where we all sit around and sing cum bye yah in harmony.

Will have a meet up on the Thursday as always. I'm hopeful I'm not working then.

If its pissing down, all bets are off.

Were you there last year?
I can't believe you were, after the Sunday's deluge! :(

Still, each to their insane own ... :)

No, wasnt there last year, wouldnt want my tent to get flooded.

Only been once, (late 80s) it rained from the moment we got there, will always remember clambering over the fence and pitching our tent in the rain and mud. Had a fantastic time, sliding about between stages, caked in it... :D

Maybe thats why a bit of mud and festivals have got linked in my brain.

Have a good one Will...whatever the weather :)

If you want to come and pitch with us, look for the marquee marked 'CAMP PILF'
Im sure you'll be welcome:)
Most of the talk is planning our 'skittles' vodka and stuff. It certainly isnt going to be sober, even though the ( assumed) state will be chilled because theres kids around:)
Nobodys going to blink at anyone drinking thats for sure ( well unless they are a kiddy of course!)

Its not exactly been hammering it down like it did last year. It was relentless. It has showered for a bit here and there, nothing unusual. Bit of rain on its way, but its still over 2 weeks to go and the beginning of the festival week is meant to be warm and sunny.

We shall see, I now have serious equipment for serious rain, so I am less bothered.

Worth bearing in mind there's a big ska / dub soundclash at the leftfield tent on the Thursday - including the Slackers and Mungo's Hi Fi. You'd be a fool to be anywhere else :)

:hmm: ..is there a bar near by that's open on the Thursday?

Could move the meet up to that instead of the crazily packed Bus. Change is as good as a rest.

It's gonna be muddy WoW, just face facts ;)

Very possibly. :(

But possibly also NOT :)

UK Meteorological Office forecast updated this morning said:
UK Outlook for Monday 16 Jun 2008 to Wednesday 25 Jun 2008
Next week will start off rather cloudy with scattered showers. However, drier conditions and more frequent sunny spells are expected to spread south and east across most parts by midweek. Thereafter, most places should see some fine, dry conditions with sunny spells. However, northwestern areas will become more cloudy with showers or more persistent spells of rain, and these conditions are then likely to spread over western parts later next week. Similar conditions will persist into the following week with the most pleasant weather again likely in the south and east. Rather windy over eastern coasts at first and then in the northwest later in the period. Temperatures rather cool or near normal at first, but becoming warm in the south and east by the end of next week.

Only goes up to Wednesday 25th, but still some grounds for hope. Latest synoptic projections for 10 days to two weeks time (checked this evening on Netweather) look a little more positive this evening than they did yesterday and this morning. These are still much in flux, and can go down as well as up**, but unlike how I thought earlier today, all is far from lost ...

**Like my mood ... :(

Returns tambourine. :(

The bar by the cider bus is probably the closest bar to leftfield apart from the leftfield bar itself. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :)
