Glastonbury 2008

I've been told (haven't checked, admittedly  ) that Metcheck's forecast for the Glastonbury Festival and for Glastonbury town, on the same days, is noticeably different.

Until about the end of next week (IME, Metcheck do get better once you get very near), apply scepticism.

I'm not saying Metcheck are necessarily wrong to say there'll be significant rain, but using computer based models as a basis, with little or no human analysis (this far out) of the synoptic projections, is deeply dodgy methodology meteorologically. The Met Office laugh at their longer term 'forecast' methods and so do some real experts/geeks on Netweather. Plus Metcheck use precedent for comparable periods from previous years as a large element of what they come up with.

And as we all know, this years Glastonbury will not be like last year's ;)

far too bloody much!

ANY rain -- at all -- is far too bloody much!

Anyone coming up with that old chestnut, that in a hot year they love the thought of a 'cooling shower' to 'damp down the dust' can expect to have a pint of cooling cider poured over their heads -- their own ...

Wish for a cooling shower and you'll very likely get a mudbath. Same goes for those wanting it to be cloudy to protect themselves from the sun. Cloud = risk of showers ; showers = risk of downpour ; downpour = risk of mudbath.

No rain, no mud, no compromise!

We are **SO** overdue a dry warm and sunny one. I'm not all that optimistic so far (and I've been checking stuff a lot!), but matters are still (just) up for grabs, with changes still possible.

In either direction, unfortunately

I'm quite happy with a cooling shower on a dry year actually. It's nice. :D

It is going to rain though, isn't it. I mean it is, isn't it. It's going to be another bloody quagmire, isn't it.

I know you're only taking the piss but from most of your posts, I sense a little fear of moisture? :hmm:

Chill winston ;)

I predict a few wet days, a few dry days, a couple of sunny days and a couple of overcast ones...

Were you there last year jontz?

That's yer answer :(.

I disagree with you sparklefish about shade being hard to find at Glastonbury back in the Stone Ages of hot sunny festivals. There's actually plenty of shelter round the site, and in any case, what with sunhats, parasols, etc., it's easier to protect yourself against the sun than it is to sit down in the mud!

But I'll spare you a scorcher, we're not all that likely to get one anyway. Just can't see where the requisite High Pressure is going to come from on current projections. Hopes just focussed on avoiding significant rain ....

Rain and mud again, its not fear, its just depressing.

That's perfectly reasonable, given the festival's position in the valley. The campervan Blue Route means you get to drive right round the edge of the festival site before hitting the entrance, and it's not unusual to be driving in the dry, watching the rain coming down in the valley.

OK, were camping in Cockmills with some other parents bringing kids on their own

YOu lot are still camping in Dragon?? and where and when are urbz planning on meeting? id like to get to meet some of you if I get the chance.

I'm abandoning Dragon this year. Too much hassle slogging across the site in time to nab a piece of grass that isn't on a 45 degree incline. I'm heading for Pennards this year.

I have just looked at the final line-up and noticed that there is a 'very special guest' playing on the Park Stage. I have also heard rumours that Tenacious D are to play Glastonbury, could this be they!? Or is that just really wishful thinking???

My tickets have come!!!! :):):)

officially excited now!

Not going to worry about the weather, it'll do what itwants whether I bother about it or not. I wouldn't dream of going to any festy without decent waterproof gear.

I am however wondering abut where to camp this year - we have camped in Cockmills for years and like it very much. But as the kids aren't with us this time I don't know if it would still be ok.

Advice anyone? :D

Showers of any type wreck a glastonbury...

Not sure where to camp this year - North side is alright away from babylon, but south side is just cooler - Tort - will you save a space on pennards for me? I'll be there Thursday evening... ah, I've just thought of a problem with that plan... Maybe I'll just camp where I can see a space (or behind the farmhouse in infocamp).

I'm going to have to try and do a lightweight glasto as I'll not have a car on site for the first time in a few years - I think I may have to leave the fridge at home this time... How long can a pack of bacon remain safe in proper hot festival weather?

It is going to rain though, isn't it. I mean it is, isn't it. It's going to be another bloody quagmire, isn't it.

Oh god it is isn't it? I don't think I can cope with all that filth all over again... I lost 4lb and went deaf in one ear after last time :(

SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!!!!!
:eek::eek::eek:

Well, Glastonbury Festival has finally defeated the touts - the tickets are now so worthless that they can sell them 6 at a time in HMV, like the old days. :D

Birmingham HMV reportedly shifted 350+ tickets today (the first day available), out of an allocation of 500. A sell out could just about happen.

Hope the touts don't think that though. ;)

One of the actors in the novelty band has said they are will be doing the festival, yes. :)
