Glastonbury 2008

Excitement has kicked in. Bizarrely, nearly had a big bust up wth GF today, her bailing on coming to the Info meet this weekend. She's never been interested in the fest, so I thought 2 hours on the farm would be the closest I could get her.

End of discussion... Was... She's not coming to the info meet. Oh no. She's coming to the bloody festival itself, instead!

What am I letting myself in for... Hmmm.

She's a very committed vegetarian, so she'll be well sorted for good food. Half the battle won I hope :)

Hmmm - are we dating the same girl?

edit: No really, the more I read and reread your post... We are dating the same girl!

Cheffy, I’ve got plenty of room if you want to ditch the tent & doss in with me. Provided of course you don’t mind me crashing in at 6am when you’re trying to catch a few hours kip between shifts :)

I'd love to - slight problem of the other half being scared shitless when a naked Tort tries to get into bed with her...

Cheers for the offer though! :)

Worth bearing in mind there's a big ska / dub soundclash at the leftfield tent on the Thursday - including the Slackers and Mungo's Hi Fi. You'd be a fool to be anywhere else :)
kingblues & slackers is one of the highlights of this year for me

I could but I was told I may not get re-entry to the car parks if I did.... is that true?

You can get the free shuttle bus from the festival to the pick up point. Meet the girls as they are dropped off and then get the free bus back together. This may well take some time, and it is probably worth dropping into an info point on Wednesday or Thursday to find out about times of shuttle busses and if any strings can be pulled to get them to the gate. Ford info (near the leftfield) is probably best for this sort of enquiry.

Let us know how you get on after the festival!

Its going to absolutely hammer it it down, we all know it now.

Nothing to be done about it unless someone has a Glastonbury sized tarpaulin and a lot of tall poles.

One day maybe.

Glastonbury 2018: The first year of the SuperTent. Michael declares it a roaring success. "it's the best year yet!". Veterans say it's not as good as it used to be, and reminisce about getting truly soaked in 2007. "Now it's just going to dry all the time. Eavis has lost it.".

William is off line for weekend, so I'll do today's weather update from 'JACKONE'

Basically:

Wet start, maybe wet end. Dry in the middle. He's upped his rating to 3/5.

Improvement. :)

oooh! that sounds far more encouraging :)

but like LMHF says, what will be will be and we'll do our best to have a fantastic time anyway :D

I've worn my new hiking boots all day, and apart from the weight of them making me a bit achey, they don't pinch anywhere

my wellies on the other hand aren't the best fit, so hopefully I won't need them much *crosses fingers*

Although I normally ignore the weather reports, I think for some it's all kind ritual stuff. Tort and I were saying the other day about the 'line up tick list' thing... going through it all, studiously marking each and every band you'd like to see. In the full knowledge you won't see anything like half of them, because... well... it's Glastonbury. Stuff just seems to happen. :)

So, yep you are right, what will be will be... Some of us are just hamster-wheeling in the final stages. :)

e2a: With hiking boots, condemn the evil wellys to the bin! Boots boots boots... no matter how rainy. Which it won't be. ;)

so you reckon with hiking boots (which claim to be waterproof) and a pair of gaiters AND waterproof trousers, I'll be alright in the rain that won't materialise? :D

I'm stuffed if the weathers good :D :D

I like to think I've got the all weather minimum-fuss combo: Just walking boots, combats and T-Shirt. Then if it rains, I put on a jacket I've got that's totally waterproof. Worked fine all last year. Somewhere in my pack there'll be a pair of shorts, for the unlikely scenario of it being too hot. ;) I never ever take jeans though... they really do soak up wetness, and then never dry.

Thanks:) I will definitely pull the 'young and vulnerable' one and see if they can be dropped at whichever gate is most accessible instead of at the showground if I can.
MrFit said he definitely is going to drive down and collect them because he promised littlest hissyfit he can wear his robber mask and see the Hooziers:D

I've just bought some wellies from Millets, tenner. Bargain. If I don't use em, I'll take em back. If I do use 'em, I'll give em a wash and take em back. Still hoping to not to need them though, good sturdy work boots should keep me supported, dry and ache free.... I hope...

Long waterproof coat, so you can sit down anywhere, that's what you need.

*remembers sitting on coat on top of 3 inches of mud with Ms Shirl, when she was having problems with the amount of legs people had - and still having a dry bottom*

Or carry one of those fold up plastic sheets...you can get small ones that sit 2-3 and folf up small. My mate had one...I brought out a fresh bin bag each day..:)

11 more sleeps people!! WOO :D I dont care what the weather is doing am going to have a smashing time either way! Can you tell who the Glasto virgin is by any chance? ;)

Can anyone tell me if O2 network works at Glastonbury? I know its not something I really should be worrying about but I am leaving the mini miaows behind and want to be able to call in the evening to say goodnight and check up on their general health and wellbeing, as you do lol

Mobile services are provided by Orange so other networks can be a little hit and miss at times

Do you know which gate you'll be going in? West side (PGD) or east (PGC) or public transport (PGA).

Why do I want to know? Because I love the "first views" thing. You only get that experience, virginal, once. Bloody marvellous. I'm going to meet my GF (festy virgin full stop) well outside the fence, just so I can see her face when it all opens up in front of her eyes.

I'm now, officially, at the borderline-gibberish excitement level. :)

I have no idea which gate, we going in a camper van if that gives any clue? awww bless! I am a festy virgin full stop as well! I seriously cant wait now! :D

Ah, blue route - you'll probably get to drive all the way round the edge of the site, thinking 'fuck, this is huge!' If you end up in field E16/17, you get a great view of all the candles and flares twinkling in the stone circle field at night. :)

You just wait! :D

Camp wisely (up hills away from bogs and walkthroughs)
Take the right clobber (good boots, waterproofs and layers)
take bin bags, tarps, some rope and gaffer tape (and a tent!) and you will be sorted.

:)

And yer ticket. Always useful, I find! ;)

Well, I've just left Paddington, and should be at the site shortly after 12, and then William and all the other Info bods will congregate on Michael's front lawn at about 2pm. The weather yesterday was great by all account, and today is looking great too. Sadly though, this could be the only time I'll see it like that this year. Last night's net weather run was borderline 1 or 2, with 'JACKONE' settling on 2. But there's time yet for it to at least get a little better. I'll try and post some site pictures later on.
