Glastonbury 2008

Please don’t. It’s very dull & you only get yourself in a paddy. :p

You know me too well  :hmm: at self .... but we so need to be spared mud after last time!!! Denialism the way forward, at this stage ...

What I'll do but not til June, is just link to the proper forecasts I'm starting to be given. Too early to say right now of course, just general indicators for June overall at this stage. And they're not too bad ...

I think we're due a (mainly) dry this time and I'd be prepared to bet a cider on it ...

That’s the ticket number I’ve been allocated and I’ve made the assumption that as mine was one of the latest to be sold there are still 32,000 unsold. That assumption may be inaccurate. Who knows!

Well I don't know either, but I was just speculating that there's just as high a chance of it being a reallocation, as it being original no 105,XXX -- all those fuckups on original ticket sale day make the reallocation thing a strong possibility I'd have thought .... but yes, who knows ...

So am I. I’ve already said it was an “unsubstantiated rumour”. But the 32k number does seem feasible given there are still normal tickets on sale and best part of 25,000 of those that remain unsold have to be coach package tickets to meet the licence conditions. What is certain is that we will not see a repeat of last year’s overcrowding and that makes me very happy. :)

I agree less people around would be great. Dry conditions will encourage more spreading out in any case, even if there's an eventual sell our or near sell out ..., but I've been through that one before ;)

just noticing that 25,000 thing now .. ahem ...

In rush here today. Cheers.

That's a terrible rate of coach sales!!

Are you surprised given the number of people who were made to stand in the pouring rain last year for up to 8 hours with no food, water, shelter or toilet facilities and very little information? By all accounts some punters were even made to strip to their underwear before they were allowed to board those coaches that did arrive. Major improvements may have been made this year but it will take a good while to restore the faith of the poor bastards who had to endure those conditions.

I'm not surprised at all, although ca 4000 is particularly bad.. It was one of the things I was most critical about myself, when I heard the details. We can only hope Mendips orders to GFL sort that one out, have some effect. But of course that's shutting the stable door etc. as you say.

Thats a 5 Million quid short fall for the festival. I wonder how it will be effected by that?

...and that's just ticket revenue before any merchandising etc. But at the end of the days it just means the number of people onsite will revert to somewhere nearer 2005 numbers which was generally a comfortable state of affairs.

Camping space should be much more comfortable. 2008 will have at least 100 acres more than 2005.

Won't be any more spacious in Dragon mind;)

After 3 years in Dragon I'm actually pondering a change of scene this year. I just can't be arsed with the Texas Scramble you need to endure when the gates open in order to get a pitch there. :hmm:

Can't guarentee anything obviously, but I'm monitoring the weather on geeky sites -- so normal people don't have to! :p

Very early signs (signs that are far too early so far, to be fair  ) lead me o be very cautiously optimistic .... at this stage ....

.................................
Hope you get through OK, mysterygirl, there's various advice available concerning minimising the pain of getting out and about a very large and slopey site.

I'm sure you've sorted yourself with some strong, ankle-supporting walking boots?
I looked at metcheck last week, the forecast was not a cloud in the sky all that week, and mid-20's. Today it was rain 24/7, temperatures 12-14 tops. Im ignoring the forecast I saw today, and then it will go away. :D

Usually I do trainers for festivals, I will definitely be taking my walking boots though in anticipation of mud, ankle problems or both.

I find wellies really uncomfortable and hot. I don't really have any decent boots and I'm not buying a pair for 1 weekend a year which is the only time I'd wear them.

I wear boots a lot, because of the horses. So if I discover my walking boots aren't up to it any more (I haven't worn them for a while) I'll be quite happy to spend whatever on another pair of boots of one description or another - they'll get worn to death next winter anyway so for me, it's still money well spent.

Ok I’m bored so I just did a little research.
snip

Wow - you really were bored, weren't you! :D

:D

Mountain Horse boots are the way to go !

I wear mine to death - they have reinforced toe caps but very comfortable to walk in. I work at a trekking centre part time and we have to walk a lot! :D And I have had them nearly 3 years!!!

The only reason I won't be wearing them to Glasto is that I have other boots!

A chnage may be good, might not Williams be a bit less frantic? But paolo's Cockmill's suggestion has its merits too :)

We'll stick with Dragon I think, as we'll have a day's advantage :)

I’ve camped in Williams before (2003) and it was nice enough but it fills up almost as quickly as Dragon & the best bits at the top of the hill are sectioned off for crew camping these days. Not sure about Cockmill. I don’t know anybody else planning to camp there plus there’s constant traffic heading up to the farm & also the power cables to contend with. Mind you the little field tucked off to the side was quite nice when I visited some people camped there a few years ago. I’ve had invitations to join groups in Pennards & Kidney Mead and the Pants crew look likely to be having their tipis in Dragon again so I might just end up back there again after all. We’ll see

Mountain Horse were in mind when I posted that :D

Although a couple of years ago I came across some Hi Tec trainer boot-thingy's in TK Maxx. Very light, very tough, water proof, breathable, incredibly comfortable even after wearing them all day. I've turned out and fetched back in, mucked out and ridden in them daily for 2 years now. They cost me £25.00. An absolute BARGAIN! Sadly, they're cracking at the sides now and won't do me for Glastonbury (or anywhere else muddy for that matter) if it rains. I need a new pair. :(

teh Mountain Horse were expensive :(

but they do last :)

if I wasn't wearing ye olde goth boots would wear horsey ones. They of course have the advantage that if half a ton of Highland pony treads on me toe I get away with it :D

ps this happens quite often :D (but mysterygirl knows this) !:D

So there is a strong possibilty of rain!

Evens, no more, I'd say -- and my early hunch is that the chances of any significant rain are less than that this time.

But you're a bit of a miserable Glastonbury hating git anyway, and probably WANT it to rain to confirm your prejudices ... :p

But hey, there are probably going to be a good 25,000 less people there this year so even if the mud does materialise it will be less of an inconvenience.

How come there will be less punters Tort? Are you refering to the number of staff that have been moved out of the main fence or are number just down this year?

I've just accepted an invitation to work the early shift for Oxfam so I *should* be arriving on Saturday! Can't wait meeself...

Does anyone know whether there will be shuttle busses / public transport from the station on Saturday? (the one before the festie btw)

No shuttles but don't the charities usually provide transport? I think with WBC you have to travel in with them or you won't get on site.

Like Bees says that's just a very rough guess at how many tickets will remain unsold.

Afraid the shuttle busses don't start running from the station until the punters start turning up on the Wednesday. It'd be worth your while making sure you have the phone numbers of a couple of local taxi firms before you get there just in case you can't cadge a lift to the site.
