Glastonbury 2008

One for the conspiracy theorists. There's been a significant jump in the number of registrations, which is understandable if people thought the registration period ended at the end of Feb, as it did last year. But it seems that everybody who has registered over the last few days has got a registration number that is a multiple of 3 (after you take away the 1 at the front). :hmm:

How do they work that out???

Like I said to my mate last night, the only thing that would make me think about going back to Glasto this year is if they brought back the dead. (So Arthur Lee or Jeff Buckley or something... :p)

Sorry for the negativity maaaan - have fun everyone! :):)

That divisible by three theory about registration numbers sounds a bit iffy to me ...

Surely too obvious, and as well as that, self defeating/counterproductive for the Festival?

Lost vagueness aren't at Glasto this year for a number of reasons one of which being the fact that it really was a bit shite last year, another being the fact that Madness was a badly kept secret and the place got rammed with pissed off punters on saturday, not least though they closed for a part of saturday night in a huff because Astro cafe were camped in the dragon field and they threw a strop and closed everything for a while when they were told that astro cafe were allowed to stay as they were friends with one of michaels grand daughters who I was camped with and worked with painting bins.

The fact was that Brian and the astro lot weren't even selling anything really they just had a bit of a set up there with a coconut shy getting wankered and having a laugh with mates. I should know I was next to them.

First time I've heard this story about the Astro (Astral?) cafe?

I never seemed to be around at Dragon when there were sounds down there. I hope they come back as a tolerated part of the new set up, for a good few years the AC has been a great spot for late night partying ...

Anything as stylised as Lost vagueness is bound to lose its edge after a little while they just took their eye off the ball imo and got a bit big for their boots with the strike. They were always gonna put a bit of a spin on them leaving and Im sure they'll go on to do other things with the brand, but it was tired last year.

Agree with this! The whole LV thing needed to be sacked and replaced by some new people and new ideas. I have good hopes of the new zone, Chris Tofu/Continetal Drifts have a great creative track record, and Trash City was fab last time.

Not TOO bothered about the tipis moving, as newbie said things evolve and change over the years and not all change is bad. I'd heard the tipi circle WOULD be at the foot of the Sacred Space, but perhaps they'll instead be at the top of Pennards between Sacred Space and the Park? The latter layout might make logical sense if the Bimble (itself an overgrown tipi  ) is to move to that area.

Been reading up elsewhere on this thing about registration numbers only being issued in multiples of 3. At least for a time anyway.

Being a hardcore counterconspiracist, I remain very sceptical that there isn't an Occams-friendly explanation one based elsewhere than than that it's being done deliberately to inflate registration numbers artificially. That really would be stupidly obvious and counterproductive for the festival.

But I can't think of that alternative, ultra-rationalist-nasty-bully-friendly ;) explanation right now and I await more information ....

<Keeps 'open mind' :p >

frankly I couldn't care less where they go, as they don't interest me, but I'll be a bit miffed if they colonise a field I do care about.

Someone rumoured that there will be 400 more pay tipis in the barracks area over by the Park (at least, I think that's where they meant, maybe it was the equally ridiculous field over The Bridge) so why don't they go over there?

I've heard they are scrapping the field over the bridge this year which probably also explains the increase in THe Park.

That's such a shame. I thought it one of the architectural wonders of the age, a stark and forbidding statement to the rest of us that we weren't welcome. Others thought that rather melodramatic, and described simply it as a preposterous eyesore :)

Thom Yorke on why they're not playing Glastonbury this time said:
Not because of transport issues but because the festival goers at Glastonbury were more than likely sick of the sight of us.. it felt a little early to be doing it again, we felt as if we had only just played there.

And :

All power to them [ie Michael and Emily]

Have good Glastonbury and maybe see you there in 2009. ? maybe?

 :)

The Slackers are strongly rumoured to be playing according to efests. I've wanted to see that band at glastonbury for a long time and the year i decide to give it a miss they finally book them!

There's still time to undecide. :)

True, but they were the only people on the lineup so far to get me excited. Can't really justify spending all that money to see one band that I've seen loads of times anyway...

GlastoEarth 1.1 is now up...

- Nearly Fifty Stages
- Paths and Waterways
- Market & Crew Areas
- SuperFortress
- Offsite Features inc. Castle Cary station.

(And loads of other improvements. And, being a total geek about this, I've even added the pylons.:) )

GlastoEarth 1.1

(Check out the 'bonus features' folder ;) )

Well there's certainly a lot of general hostility to Glastonbury around -- for a very erm 'diverse' range of reasons (most of them prejuduced, ignorant and blinkered IMO).

Check that link if you have a bit of time ... some of those comments are well annoying ...

 some of the comments are a bit harsh aren't they?

Must admit i didn't disagree with the fella on the first page who isn't going because Eavis said he wanted to attract more under 25s. I think that comment upset a lot of people who felt a bit let down when they thought they've been supporting the festival by attending and participating for many years...

:hmm:
