Glastonbury 2008

Tort - thought I saw you at Bedouin Jerry Can Band, but you blanked my wave and shout of "TORT" and got yourself breakfast and cider - at this point I had a crisis of confidence and thought I might just be waving at a bald bloke with a camera! Glad you decided to come along and enjoy in the end!

Sorry I missed you mate. I was only in the Pyramid field twice all weekend & you were off duty on both occassions. I was there for BJCB so it probably was me. I'm a bit blind & deaf these days young man so you'll have to speak up. ;)

Just watching the Jay Z show now. If not for the fact I wanted to watch Massive Attack at the same time, I think I would have enjoyed myself at the Pyramid on Saturday night.

Thumbs up

Oh yeah... Nice to see you again Tort, TLC and thankfully finally confirming the we don't share the same girlfriend, and good for you and me that they were both loving the festival ;)

Apologies to Wiskey/Derv/Newbie/JTG - intended to find your camp and never made it.

Vintage! Best ever for me? Maybe ....

Well Deb and I were onsite for a week, Monday to Monday, and we had an absolutely stunning time with lots of highlights and very very few lowlights. We missed a few things we wanted to see because of our shifts, missing Buddy Guy on Saturday night was a particular pain since people say earlier up the thread that he was amazing, and we heard the same from people onsite too. And for the fifth time at Glasto :hmm: I missed Massive as well for the same reason.

But we loved the work and intend to be early site residents on the same basis next year, the festival overall rocked our world for nearly eight days and the weather, Thursday night and much of Friday excepted, was tres

Trash City at night ---- most visually stunning thing I've seen at Glastonbury for many many years, possibly ever ....

Have to go the pub, I have a bit of money left, I've just been paid today, it's hot and sunny and it's still my time off.

More later! :D :)

We left around 8pm last night and drove off site with no problems. We had to stop for a kip at some service station though so got back around 4am, straight to bed, then slept for 10 hours. :)

It was wicked. I wouldn't go so far as saying 'the best one ever' but it does have a lot to live up too :D

the crowds in shangri- la and trash city. made going there utterly pointless. you queue for twenty minutes to get in somewhere, (

I'm not too keen on this recent trend to closed sided tents/rooms. I can see it helps create an atmosphere inside and I guess it means you can get a bit more volume without impeding on other systems. But it encourages queuing, you can't really wander around and see what's going on without waiting for ages. It also feels a bit exclusive and I'm not sure that's the way to go. Saying that it would work a hell of a lot better with less people. :)

Nice one Will. Must say I was feeling *pretty* smug on Thursday night, less so come Sunday.
Glad you all had a great time, that at least some of my predictions in post#1 came true and I await more write-ups.:)

Wow, sounds great Will. What organisation were you w*rking for?

On my way out, but same as paolo999 -- Info Crew. :)

Helping people and answering questions**. Loved it!! :)

**Also selling Q Reviews to departing festival goers on the Monday morning, while drinking pre breakfast cans and using my knowledge of East Street market trader banter to shift copies, sold LOADS!!! And a bloke gave me a spliff :p

Ahhhh :) Nice one, Will.

Just caught the Amy Winehouse set on the iPlayer, oh dear started to listen and had to switch off. She was great last year.

Its just sad this year.

Only heard that there were a few robberies on Wednesday night with security hard to find (which surprises me given that there are campsite stewards in every field). It got better once a lot of people had been arrested on Thursday.

There were apparently quite a few in our field wednesday night (park home)and most of the tents around us said someone attempted to get in but gave up when people woke up (us too). Apparently people couldn't find security or stewards to report it but the campsite stewards and security went round and warned everyone in the morning and the security in our field were really friendly.

It's the first year since 2000 that I've felt nervous at night as I hated the thought of someone going through my stuff when I was asleep. :( I also had to sleep with a camera, purse, mobile and sunglasses (expensive ones) in my sleeping bag which was a bit uncomfortable.

I do this every year. We were in the same field but camped right by the path, Jefe said they had arrested loads on Thursday, a gang of 20 or so that had bought tickets from HMV. Rumour or?

Madamv saw on the news that 20 had been arrested by thursday and one of the stewards speculated that selling the tickets at HMV with no I.D. may have contributed so he may have reached the conclusion from that.

Shame I didn't get to meet you properly. Coming to Endorse It?

Chatting to a fellow info worker, we had the same conclusion (retail tix) re the thefts. Sounded like security and police did a great job of putting a stop to it. Although obviously would have been better for it not to have started.

Kanda... Next time bring your charger and come and see us at Info... When I was on shift we always had spare sockets. It's not an advertised service for obvious reasons, but we help when we can.

Think so, not sure. My phone battery ran out early and the charging posts didn't do iPhones so was difficult to catch up with anyone! :(
I always bring an old phone to festivals so a) the battery lasts and b)it's no big deal if I lose it.

What a load of whining, sneering bastards littered this thread over the weekend :D

Jealousy is a terrible thing.

Probably the best Glastonbury this decade, even the heavy rain for the first couple of days didn't dampen the fun. The last two days had glorious weather, I saw some fantastic acts (including Jay-Z - who DID connect with the crowd, got some of the biggest cheers I've ever heard and totally rocked it) and had a fantastic time :)

I'm astonished people feel able to bitch and moan about something based on the BB fucking C coverage :D

Let's hear it for Rob / Larry Love informing two different crowds (that i saw..) that Noel Gallagher is a racist motherfucker :)

Candi Staton was beautiful, miles from the usual heritage soul act. Holy Fuck were amazing and should have been on much later somewhere else. Rachel Unthank, The Handsome Family and Alabama 3 unplugged made for a marvellous afternoon in the Avalon Tent.. The Slackers were good but not as good as they should have been, sadly. Thoroughly enjoyed the Young Knives. Leonard Cohen won the festival by a million miles - people DANCING to Len will be a sight I'll never forget, he was an absolute gent and there wasn't a dry eye in the house for Hallelujah..

Just fantastic, a wonderful wonderful weekend.

Oh, and Jimmy Cliff was an absolute embarassment. We fled (and caught the Alabama 3 tearing up the Leftfield stage). Just cabaret nonsense

I had a wicked time :D

didn't see that many bands really, I seemed to wake up after the main stages had finished, so found other things to do :D work was brilliant and they want me back next year

thanks to everyone that was generous to me, I'd have been lost without you ;)

Was lovely to have you there too :)

Other great things:

Trash City was amazing, best thing I've ever seen there. Shangri La perhaps hasn't moved on far enough from Lost Vagueness, but the atmosphere was much better and it felt less claustrophobic..

The views from the steep hill between the stone circle and the Park were stunning

Playing a 4hour set up in Slippery Dicks bar on Sunday night was a fantastic way to end the weekend, even if I did end up pissing INTO the back of a man's jeans AND knocking myself out on a low branch.

I thought there was a lot less rubbish left on Monday this year, although I've got no way of knowing if it was punters or faster site clearing..

Seeing John Cale live for the first time was a wonderful thing.

I saw their performance on the Jazz World stage and I don't think he did that there. It wasn't all that tbh, the sound was really odd so far as I could tell. Shame.

Having seen Jay Z's performance (via the BBC :D ), I think you're right about him. You're sadly also correct about the sneery people on this thread. But never mind, we had a much better time than they did
