Glastonbury 2007 pt1: the build-up

In an uncharacteristic outbreak of organisedness

Now sorted out my campsite booking on the Glastonbury (town) campsite for the Tuesday night, and also booked my coach to Bristol/Glastonbury daytime Tuesday .... :)

So I'm definitely in the zone now for an early arrival on site Wednesday morning ...

You are entirely spared weather updates from me this week. The 'forecasts' (which were mostly updated today) are all over the place, more so than usual, and it's even more likely than usual that next week's updates will alter things dramatically. But in which direction? Could go either way at this stage!

;)

The Tweenie Van has some room.....

It wouldn't feel right driving the beast down just for a good night's sleep :)

Especially as I got the golden ticket via a phone number from this thread ;)

So there are places up for grab for anyone wanting a lift down

I am not charging...but if she breaks down, you are on your own.

Leaving Tooting 10am on Friday.

I can't take you on site. But I can get you close.

PM me if you are interested

I'm having a t-shirt done with "I fucking well told you so" on em ;)

have they sent the tickets out yet?

firky wants to know:rolleyes:

I hope so. My email last Friday morning from Seetickets told me my ticket had been dispatched. It will inevitably arrive when I'm not indoors, so I await the exciting POST OFFICE FAILED DELIVERY CARD :p with unreasonable levels of breathless anticipation .... any time now ...

Elsewhere, some people have even reported receiving their ticket already.

I notice you're not posting 'the link' right now .... ;)

I await (with trepidation) a positive upturn in that one.

Bah - people should have it bookmarked as their homepage ;)

How exciting!

I have vodka and tequila for cocktails and sambuca for shots.
I have shot glasses too.

Good for you Sparklefish...just cos you're in the middle of a field, doesnt mean that you should let standards slip......Thank God we're taking a campervan this year and can enjoy ice cold champagne, fresh mojitos with crushed ice and mint and Bloody Marys with real celery sticks...all imbibed from the appropriate glassware of course;)

So, aside from -

What personal stuff do I need? There's always something I regret not bringing

I find an eye mask and a couple of valium perfect for catching an hour or two of beauty sleep, usually between around 9 and 11 am.

How many slabs, did you say? :p

Got my coach tickets through the post on Friday. Just through normal mail though, not recorded delivery or courier.

15 sleeps :)

I just remembered coming over the hill from the west at night and seeing the festival for the very 1st time.

Mmmm, mojitos. That is such a good idea- so refreshing!

Usual paranoia here -- I get my email from Seetickets saying my ticket had been dispatched last Friday morning. My post gets delivered ca. 11 am and thus I don't get to see what's in it (ie exciting Post Office Failed Delivery cards) until ... erm ... I 'get home' ;)

Not a sausage yet :(

<Resolves to hold off serious paranoia til Thursday  >

Ooh an eye mask. Fabulous! And I must remember my ear plugs, in case I am camped near a snorer *cough*.

I didn't get mine from the postman (I don't think as my post arrived at a different time to the ticket [I got mine delivered to work - you can phone the number on your email and get this arranged as well])

I think I'll make the LV Fat Boy Slim set, always think yeah he's shit, for some reason he never is, actually he's irritatingly good.

Saturday "after hours" at LV has issues, due to Madness AND Fatboy Slim being billed, with specific times.

Either:

(a) The schedule is going to get rearranged.

OR

(b) There will be a 'shut down' of approaches to LV, to avoid safety problems.

Either way, taking major acts and listing them, to play such a small area with known access difficulties, was a bad move by LV and - as I understand it - is being raised with GFL.

If the schedule doesn't change, get there *well* beforehand. ;)

I can understand why LV would want to get Madness in - for those who can get near enough it should be a fabulous gig. However, given that they're happening after the main stages shut down & that there will be HUGE interest in Madness it's an accident waiting to happen. Glastonbury faces the unedifying prospect of a either a gig being cancelled on H&S grounds or of bouncers at the LV field entrance turning people away.

Bad planning I think.

Madness!!!

Have to agree. Their current Ballroom won't hold more than about 2,000, say another 2,500 hanging around outside within hearing distances.

Probable (?) demand for Madness : at least 10,000 .. more I shouldn't wonder...

They haven't played at Glastonbury since 1982 FFS.

Even if LV acquire themselves a bigger marquee (very possible ;) ) I just don't see Madness as sustainable there at that time. I suspect they'll end up getting moved -- either in stage terms or time terms ... or both ...

Too late for that now -- ticket en route. Have to sit tight and hope it turns up ..

Won't know til this evening whether it comes today. It's about due though ...
