william - i dont believe you doubted me :p:p (i went on efests)

Last week I found it really unlikely at first that the film being shown was going to be the Julian Temple one, after all it was being shown pretty soon after the cinema release, and just before the DVD release -- WTF, I thought?

So I just asked for confirmation over there, I did say you were normally very reliable about Glasto stuff!

And maintain your 100% record now, despite my initial doubts -- unworthy ones as it turns out, but you can understand why I had them. Sorry!

And I've now just watched the DVD of Julian Temple's film ... all the way though! I was late to it, but worth the wait!!!

I thoroughly recommend watching this masterpiece of documentary history as soon as possible. I recommend that to all people who have any opinion of any kind at all about Glastonbury, positive, negative, or inbetween ...

It's the business as a weirdly produced, much edited and chopped about, chaotic, disorganised, shambolic sort-of history of the monster .... very critical, very celebratory, mud and sunshine ... a distorted reflection of the EVENT OF OUR ERA ...

Watch this film soon. Indeed, watch this superb film now

Preferably while on drugs ....

<skins up again :p >

So did you laugh when the juggler set himself on fire :D

That got the most laughs in the cinema i saw it in. Unfortunately the second biggest laugh was at the slightly slow looking bloke who was pleased to be cleaning the toilets with his dad. Bloody Islington tossers

They seemed like really nice people those toilet cleaners!!!! :(

People who sneer at them can fuck off .....

I was 'distracted' at the moment of the juggler on fire moment though .. ahem .... ;)

I once vowed that I so wanted to get into Glastonbury, that if it meant I had to clean the toilets I would do it...!!!

I actually said out loud in the cinema "that's out of order" or something like that. They looked like a nice family just doing their thing...

Bump!!!

This massively important :p thread had sank since July, what with all the other distracting festivals, etc. that have happened since then ...

Now we have only nine months to go before Glastonbury 2007 ...

Went back to efestivals yesterday for the first time in weeks ;) ... recently, they've added to that website an interview with Michael Eavis by Scott Johnson of efestivals which contains some interesting highlights :

Ticketing system for 2007 :

Interview said:
Q. Will you be sticking to the current ticketing system?

A. No, technology is moving so fast now. You can get a card that you put in when you get to the gate which will produce a picture of the person that the card belongs to. You know there’s so much stuff going on.

Site drainage :

Michael Eavis said:
If we get that flash flooding again – 3 inches of rain in about an hour and a half then we can deal with it. I’ve just got 600 2x6 pipes – big ones you see.

ETA : In fact he mentions rain and mud at least 3 or 4 times over the interview, maybe he's ineffectually trying to put people off to reduce pressure on tickets!! :p Won't work -- we're well overdue a totally hot and sunny one (as in no rain at all and absolutely no prospect of any) -- we'll probably get one, and most people will just gamble ...

New ideas for licence :

Michael Eavis said:
With new licensing laws we are going for a licence forever. From here to eternity – nice slogan isn’t it? We are gonna try and get that past Mendip. It’s a site licence now so it won’t belong to people it will belong to the site. Personnel change but the licence will still belong to the farm.

Site/numbers expansion :

Michael Eavis said:
We’ve got about 7 farms involved with this site now – it’s so big. I’ve just got 450 acres, but we’re using over 1000 acres now. We’ve got an extra 70 acres on last year for the extra 20,000 people.

Michael won't be checking out U75 or other websites :

Michael Eavis said:
Do you know what? I’ve never read a website in my life. I don’t use the internet at all. I like to see people face to face. I don’t like to do it so remote – especially with all these emails, nobody knows what anybody looks like anymore.

Not headlining/appearing next year :

Michael Eavis said:
I’ll tell you one band who will definitely not be playing is U2.

A fair bit more in the rest of the interview, have a look :)

This is definitely a massively important thread

I have already been planning Glasto '07 :) I probably won't be able to get to the site until very late Thursday/very early Friday and will have to leave late afternoon/early evening on Sunday. So, assuming I can get a ticket, I'm planning 48 hours of madness followed by a mellow Sunday and a leisurely drive back to London.

I'm not sure if I'll arrive early enough to bag a spot at Camp Urban, unless someone would be kind enough to save a space/put up a tent for me. Or perhaps I'll bring nothing but a blanket and try a nomadic existence at the festival. I don't think I'll be doing much sleeping ;)

Some interesting things in that there interview.

That suggests they've had a think and they've got plans for when Eavis does hand over the running to Emily/Mean Fiddler/Melvyn Benn/Elvis/whomever.

He is a total technophobe, sadly this means he takes advice from people about things like ticket sales. It means we get naff ideas and crappy websites that won't process ticket sales.

I’ll tell you one band who will definitely not be playing is U2.

Good.

Um, has anyone seen my tent? I know it's up this hill somewhere....

<shambles off>
No, hang on, we can work this out. What time is it? Right. And where's the sun right now? Right. That means north is that way *points east* so you should be going that way. *points west* - you'll make it. Follow your feet.
*heads south*

:D

Just got back from my last festival of this summer

< but :( at the same time >

(see Stokefest thread here on music  )

So, from now on, my Glasto 2007-based 'start that fucking festie season again yah bastids' needs will become increasingly urgent as the winter  progresses ....

What's so confusing about a thread that reads "Glastonbury 2007"?

Absolutely.

There's now another thread on Music (started by nonamenopackdrill last night) titled 'Glastonbury 2007' -- if possible, I'm even more confused now than I was last night about why on earth doing that was necessary.

It was pointless – Nonamenopackdrill just wanted the glory of his/her own Glasto thread, presumably?

Clear channels.

We've a big group set to be going festivaling (or whatever the verb is) so with the dicyness of tickets were all seriously debating giving this one a miss. Probibly end up going in the end, or the half of us that get tickets.

Don't just assume that.

I'm a bit out of the Glasto gossip loop and have heard very little recently, but I'm very sceptical that the Eavises would permit CCE to assume full control.

Still, *ALL* contracts have/been up for renewal in advance of June 2007, so ....

We'll know soon when the license application comes up.

Can't you tell?" right you are mr Yorke.

Erm .. you not bothering with Glasto next year then david?

There'll still be plenty good going on I predict, if you hang in the best parts of the site ... :)

King Mob : Indeed  :(

I agree with its not about the music, and never did I suggest bees would be watching for her music ability :D

nor indeed, truth be told, would I. I think Kylie Minogue's great--vivacious, sexy, brave, a lovely girl. Oh, and she sings a bit. I love her (honestly!).
