Far-right response to Southport Outrage And Ongoing Violent Disorder

Jfc I really do despair when people react to "right-winger uses free speech to bad ends" with demands for the government to interfere in free speech. Like fuck me does historical knowledge just fly out the ears and off into the sky like a defeated Team Rocket or what?

I'm not enthusiastic for the government to end free comment on the internet, but some of these platforms are a different beast. With direct links to the shit we are seeing up and down the country.

No, you are clearly not following the news about what Musk himself is doing on his play-thing platform.

Or, if you are, you are barking mad.
Nah, I think it's a perfectly reasonable and consistent position to both a) fucking hate Musk and everything about his shitty sewer of a website, and b) think that more government powers to ban internet stuff would be a negative thing in the long run. Fairly similar to how we can oppose the far-right riots over the last few days while also not supporting Starmer's plans for new police powers and the like.

It's a complicated topic, can I suggest people talk about it on a dedicated thread?
This will do unless someone wants to start a new one

Has anyone called for armed police units to deal with civil unrest yet, or did I miss that post?

You aren't going to stop the far-right by targeting Elon Musk. All you'll do is empower a future government with far-right influences to arrest people like you.

Twitter isn't a free speech platform, it's a heavily mediated corporate one.

Again, for the hard of hearing, I'm not advocating a ban (and really, it makes no difference if anyone in here does).

Basically cancelling leave for anyone who is public order trained for the next few weeks while things calm down.

Long term; someone like Starmer might like the idea of a permanent specialist riot police force, perhaps held at regional hubs within an hour of major population centres. Probably similar arrangements in Europeans country
Never going to happen. Far to expensive. Even the Met can't afford it (TSG are trained and deployed to do a fair bit more than public order). Plus I doubt you'd get many people to do it. The kind of people who want to do level 1 public order aren't the kind of people who would be happy sitting about 98% of the time and the kind of people who would be happy sitting about 98% of the time won't want to do level one public order.

In France for example the CRS are completely different to the rest of the french police and are more like firefighters or military. The Gendarmerie Mobile do dip in an out from other areas of policing, but have perks like six month tours to Tahiti and the like to get people to do it.

They already have the power to ban internet stuff. Z Library and Pirate Bay for example.

I do feel that I am in a kind of alternate universe version of Urban. With all this cheering on the police in public order roles.

Remember the police and the wider criminal 'justice' system are primarily established to protect and preserve the state, all the crime, disorder and public safety stuff they do most of the time are a serendipitous 'bonus'. (Personally I can't see how any society would do this differently but that's just me)

Just because the current people challenging the state are right wing knuckle draggers mobilised by wealth from somewhere doesn't change this.

It's the anti-fascism of idiots

I don't know the law, that's why I said 'I assume' and asked if you knew otherwise. Now you could tell me, and I'd have learnt something, or you can be a dick about it.
What, like you've been being a dick to others when you don't know that there are already laws in place to prohibit hate crimes and incitement to racial hatred that people on SM could be charged with, if the Govt wanted to?

There is no question in your 2358

If you want to argue then do it by yourself, I don't pretend to be an expert on the law, I just know libre sites have been taken down. If you know better then correct me, if I cunt you off then fair enough, afaia I didn't. So the argumentative bit is wasted on me.

Yeh you wouldn't understand it. Never realised what a dick you are before, not to mention a liar

I've come up with some new tshirt/badge slogan ideas for Urbfest.

Anger is a Request for the Govt to Ban Social Media.
Baby Eating Let's Have More Police Powers.
