I don't want to hijack this thread with my personal hobbyhorse, but the general level of mental welfare in this country is very poor, and at those fringes where dysfunction and resentment meet, people do things they might not otherwise have done. That is not to excuse them. But we'd be foolish - and, trust me, we will be - not to recognise deeper underlying causes behind this sort of behaviour.

There's plenty that are struggling and resenting their situation without trying to murder and blame newcomers, though.
