When I arrived in Finchley there were a lot of Palestinian flags, which I don't mind one bit but I did hope no one would start chants about Israel - again, not because I care but because it would be alienating to some Jewish attendees, even if they are not big fans of Israel. And it just wasn't the place to do that, intersectionality or no. One guy did start a chant and a handful of people joined in but fortunately they gave up after that, or maybe someone read the room and suggested it wasn't the place.

Hoping these big responses turn the tide now. There will still be situations where they attack asylum related targets, Asian businesses or whatever and we can't get people out there or there isn't an antifacist group in the area, so it's far from over. However once it's clear that several times there number are out on the streets then things start to change (both in terms of it kicking off and also the wider politics of the thing). Here's hoping anyway.

Yeah, if the intention was to cause fear then... yeah. Probably not the biggest success ever, everywhere on the list now knows there's a whole bunch of people who have no time for that bullshit, which should provide reassurance if anything. And they look like utter shitters.

You're right, though, it's far from over and they'll still try shit, but any idea that they've got mass support has been completely fucked in a LOT of places.

That's encouraging as there's very little in place organisationally in Middlesbrough now. I can think of a dozen or more long standing anti-racists who will have been out there, though it would be interesting to see if there were some younger people, perhaps who were involved in BLM. Suppose that will be an interesting question across the country in terms of the antifash demos.

Have there been any Palestine demos in Middlesbrough? I think in a lot of places there'll be new-ish people who've cut their teeth in Palestine stuff over the last year or so who'll be a decent base for any counter-mobilisations, dunno if that's the case everywhere though.
