F1 2022

What a marathon quali session..! Great to see Perez take pole, I do hope he converts it to a win tomorrow.

Russell beating Lewis so soundly is a surprise in a way, but then maybe also not, as Hamilton’s forté is getting the fastest car to perform at its best, whereas George has been schooled most recently in maximising the performance of a difficult car. That experience should stand him in good stead this year if the Merc can‘t be quickly brought back into contention.

Hope Mick recovers quickly, but I agree it seems doubtful he will be racing tomorrow. This Jeddah track is merciless - was bad enough last year but with these underdeveloped 2022 cars which can let go unpredictably, it seems almost lethal. Looking forward to the end of the race tomorrow and everyone going home safely.

Can anyone recommend a bar/pub in central London that will show the race tomorrow? Preferably with the commentary sound on so we can hear what's going on.

Riley's Sports Bar in victoria

but its been a few years since i've been central looking to watch a race in a pub :)

anyone into football know if a 6pm race clashes with anything as sure you could talk a manager of a local boozer with the sky sports package
to turn over unless a match is in play

:hmm:

albion in the city might be a good shout to :)

Cheers for the info. We might just go back to my mates house but it's good to have some options if we stay out.

Seriously, how does F1 defend racing on a circuit dangerous enough anyway without factoring in war and a country that publicly beheaded 81 people just a fortnight ago?
The same way UFC, WWE, horse racing, golf, tennis, boxing, snooker, Spanish football etc do.

Money.

Exactly.

No coincidence the announcement of the (very lucrative) Saudi deal came as F1 was revealing their financial losses in 2020. Seems rhe time of maximum financial stress was when F1’s ethical standards became most flexible.

It sucks - I don’t like the circuit and hate the fact F1 sells its brand image, in exchange for a pot of gold from a dictatorship. My views won’t change anything, but let’s hope pressure from sponsors eventually changes F1’s priorities.

I think the opposite is more likely. We saw Seb do sports driving sessions with women last year, WWE have now got to the point where more than one women's 'match' is on the card.

So sponsors see it as a 'look at this amazing work we are doing in association with XYZ'

Obviously it's all corporate bullshit and anyone with half a brain can see through it, and we only see this stuff when this huge spectacles go there, but I honestly think these global sports juggernauts think long term they are helping bring change to Saudi Arabia.

Only time will tell.

Let's do this again.

Next week, the Saudi GP. That mild and mollient regime much beloved by arms dealers everywhere. Where atheism is legally defined as terrorism. Which is ironic given the amount of actual terrorism spawned in that cartographically-created kingdom.

The telly UK times will be:

Fri 25 Mar
FP1 - 14:00 GMT / UTC
FP2 - 17:00 GMT / UTC

Sat 26 Mar
FP3 - 14:00 GMT / UTC
Qual - 17:00 GMT / UTC

Sun 27 Mar
Race - 18:00 BST = GMT+1 / UTC+1**

**Note the UK clocks spring forward one hour early on Sunday morning.

Let us all hope that Karma continues to bite the arse of those whom we believe it should, whoever that may be. Plus the close racing is good.

6pm U.K., 7pm on the continent. A nice civilised time which allows for dinner to be completed before settling down with the TV. Mind you, in Spain isn’t it the done thing to eat dinner at midnight, or some bonkers time like that?
Dinner is usually 21:30 in our home.
