At last. Abu Dhabi.

The final race of the most predictable season I can remember.

I won't be able to watch it live, but I will be able to fast forward through the inevitable perorations for this year's Red Bulls. I could do with less 'sun shining out of Verstappen's arse', and more rectal illumination from Adrian Newey, to whom the sullen Dutchman owes all his race wins.

Here are the UK telly times:

Fri 24 Nov
FP1 - 09:30
FP2 - 13:00

Sat 25 Nov
FP3 - 10:30
Qual - 14:00

Sun 26 Nov
Race - 13:00

Let's hope there's more excitement and jeopardy next year.

New rumoured name option emerges for AlphaTauri F1 team ahead of 2024 change

AlphaTauri’s name change for the 2024 F1 season is set to be announced soon, and a new option has reportedly emerged. One rumoured option for Red Bull’s sister team is ‘Racing Bulls’, according to a new report, which also claims two new American sponsors will be incorporated into it. AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer has confirmed that the Faenza outfit will again run under a ‘classic name’. "The identity is what Toro Rosso would have been, and it will be closer to the Red Bull family again," Bayer is quoted. "But then it will appear with the partners of the naming rights. We will change the team name, we will change the identity, the logo, everything, a complete relaunch, a complete rebranding. The name of the team, the identity, was decided by the partners. And I have to carry them around with me without being able to share them, and that's very difficult!"

Bayer also said that Daniel Ricciardo has played an important role in helping AlphaTauri secure new sponsors. "We are on the right track," Bayer added. "And because we are so well received in the USA, we have found these two companies that like each other. We had a very, very good meeting with these two great new partners. They got along really well. They worked together immediately. We talked about it, when will we announce it? What are we doing? And we said: Look, that's how it usually works, we have the FIA list of name and the presentation of the paintwork. And then they had ideas. They brainstormed so much that I got really scared! You have very big ideas. They think big, bigger than we probably would have dared to think."

Several name proposals have been doing the rounds in recent months but Italian publication Formu1a.uno reports the team isn’t expected to be named after Adidas or Hugo Boss, as had previously been suggested.

ALFA ROMEO ANNOUNCES WITHDRAWAL FROM FORMULA 1

The partnership between Alfa Romeo and Sauber in Formula 1 comes to an end at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. In 2018 after a 30-year hiatus, Alfa Romeo returned to the highest level of motorsport as part of a strategic, commercial and technological partnership. This has led to six years of fruitful and passionate collaboration between two companies, Alfa Romeo and Sauber Motorsport, true leading lights in the history of Formula 1. It is now time to thank everyone who has shared these unforgettable years with Alfa Romeo. Special thanks go to the late Sergio Marchionne, who strongly desired this pairing and determinedly supported the partnership in 2018.

A massive thank you to the drivers, in chronological order: Charles Leclerc, Marcus Ericsson, Antonio Giovinazzi, Kimi Raikkonen, Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas, who have all fought for the team over the past six years. A heartfelt thank you and a round of applause to the entire Sauber Team, starting with Finn Rausing, most of all Fred Vasseur but also Alessandro Alunni Bravi and Andreas Siedl, for their constant, passionate and professional collaboration. We are much obliged to all the team's partners for their support throughout. First and foremost, to Ferrari for their supply of the power units, to the tyre supplier Pirelli, for their precious contribution and a special mention and thanks go to the Alfa Romeo partners: Ferrari Trento, Marelli, Sabelt, and Web Eyewear.

Sincere thanks to the FIA and its President Mohammed Ben Sulayem for their support. Plaudits to F1 and its CEO Stefano Domenicali for what they are doing for the sport, continuing to attract the attention of millions of fans to the world of racing with dedication, and for their constant openness to Alfa Romeo. Heartfelt thanks to all the supporters and fans in the amazing Alfa Romeo TRIBE, who since 1910 have demonstrated their visceral passion in their support for the brand, an icon of noble Italian sportsmanship all over the world. Last but not least, we wish our competitors a future full of sporting success.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, Alfa Romeo CEO, said,When you close such an important chapter in the history of a brand, it's time to take stock. For Alfa Romeo, this F1 adventure represented an international showcase at the highest level, as well as a profound human and sporting experience. In my humble opinion, the return on investment from the work we have done here has been the most positive in my entire career. The benefits in terms of visibility serve as a benchmark for the entire Stellantis group. Alfa Romeo has competition in its DNA and will return to thrill its fans as soon as possible, when the conditions are right."

At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the C43 takes to the track emblazoned with the number six across the entire livery to celebrate six years of partnership with the Sauber brand. Furthermore, the sentence “Alfa Romeo nei nostri cuori” (“Alfa Romeo always in our hearts”) also features, a tribute that the Sauber team dedicates to the brand and its team. Six very intense years, in which Formula 1 has been a very powerful strategic global marketing platform for Alfa Romeo. With the clear objective of bolstering its presence in every part of the world, Alfa Romeo has profitably exploited the extraordinary exposure that only the most popular motorsport in the world can offer.

Cristiano Fiorio, Head of Alfa Romeo Strategic Projects, said “To encapsulate these wonderful years with Sauber in Formula 1: the ability to innovate, surprise, and create emotions, not only with sporting results but also with ingenuity and creativity, proudly bearing the Italian flag at all times. An extraordinary team spirit has brought together the people of Alfa Romeo F1 Stake, Alfa Romeo and Centro Stile, into a single great team that has drawn inspiration from the past to boldly face the challenges of the future. This spirit has given rise to Alfa Romeo’s biggest marketing operation in recent years. I can only be extraordinarily pleased with what we have achieved together. Thank you all and see you again soon!”

But that's not all, the six years of collaboration with the Sauber Motorsport team have meant much more, and the benefits of the partnership go far beyond the results in the races. Formula 1 is indeed a cradle of change par excellence, a pioneer in hybrid strategy at the forefront of sustainable technology and the constant quest for efficiency. Specific technical know-how from Sauber Technology and continuous technological research have taken on a strategic role of great importance in many Alfa Romeo projects. One such example is the Giulia GTA and GTAm. The result of an intense effort in the development of carbon components related to aerodynamics, the Alfa Romeo icon has benefited from the expertise acquired by Sauber in more than 50 years at the highest levels of motorsport.

Alfa Romeo and motorsport
Alfa Romeo is synonymous with racing and technological prestige all over the world. The undisputed star of pre-war Grand Prix seasons (in 1925, the GP Tipo P2 dominated the first World Championship), Alfa Romeo played a part in Formula 1 from 1950 until 1988, as both a manufacturer and an engine supplier. Way back when it made its debut in 1950 and 1951, Alfa Romeo won the first Drivers' World Championship, with Nino Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio. From 1961 to 1979, Alfa Romeo participated as an engine supplier for several F1 teams. After returning in 1979 as a constructor, Alfa Romeo finished sixth in the 1983 Constructors' Championship, its best result. The company then withdrew its team from Formula 1 in 1985.

Hamilton Red Bull 'ENQUIRY' revealed amid Mercedes contract drama

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said that a representative of Lewis Hamilton approached Red Bull regarding a potential partnership with Max Verstappen earlier this year - before the Brit inked his mega-money deal to stay at Mercedes. Horner's comments come after Hamilton admitted to holding discussions about a potential switch to Ferrari in October. However, the seven-time world champion noted that these were nothing more than 'irrelevant conversations' he engaged in before pledging his long-term future to the Silver Arrows.

Horner: Hamilton team reached out a few times
Now, it's alleged that there could have also been an astonishing move to Red Bull in the pipeline, which would have seen Hamilton team up with his on-track nemesis in three-time world champion Verstappen. "We have had several conversations over the years about Lewis joining," Horner revealed "They have reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest. He met John Elkann (Ferrari chairman), too. I think there were serious talks. It was around Monaco (in May). There were definitely conversations, perhaps with Vasseur, too. But certainly with Elkann. But I can't see Max and Lewis working out together. The dynamic wouldn't be right. We are 100 per cent happy with what we have."

After lengthy discussions and a fervent rumour mill, Hamilton signed a deal alongside George Russell which will see the pair stay as Mercedes' driver pairing until 2025.

Lewis ain't having it lol. :D

“There are a lot of people here that like to drop my name in conversations because they know it will make waves,” he said. “If you are a little bit lonely, and are not getting much attention, that is the perfect thing to do, just to mention my name. He [Horner] is stirring things.”

Re: Hammy and Horner.

Hammy has a team of people - agents, managers, accountants, lawyers - who take care of business. When contract renewals come around, they would be derelict in their duty of care if they did not explore the field, invite expressions of interest, and see what the options might be elsewhere.

That set-up allows Horner to say that Hammy came round begging for a drive, while letting Hammy assert he went nowhere near the Tooth-Rot Team. Both are truthful.

But, yes. Whinger is a shit-stirrer.

:)

McLaren and Mercedes extend partnership until 2030

McLaren has extended its engine supply deal with Mercedes until 2030, or five seasons into F1’s future power unit cycle that will commence in 2026. McLaren started its most recent association with Mercedes in 2021, having previously enjoyed a period of great success with the German manufactory in the late 90s. Mercedes also powered Lewis Hamilton to the Briton’s maiden title in F1 in 2008. Earlier this year, McLaren hinted that it could switch its engine supply deal to another engine manufacturer. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown even visited Red Bull Power trains to sound out the latter on a potential association. Ultimately however, team papaya has opted to remain loyal to its historical partner in F1.

“Mercedes-Benz have been a brilliant and reliable partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team," commented Brown. "The extension signifies the confidence that our shareholders and the wider team have in their powertrains and the direction we're taking with them into the new era of regulations ahead. We have been successful together, both in the last three seasons and when they previously powered the team, so we look forward to the success to come as we continue our journey to fight consistently at the front of the grid."

McLaren is Mercedes’ most recent customer team to have won in F1, an achievement that dates back to Daniel Ricciardo’s win at the Italian GP in 2021. "It has been a cornerstone of our motorsport strategy to work with strong customer teams," added Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff. “This has many advantages: it gives a clear competitive benchmark, accelerates our technical learning, and strengthens the overall F1 business case for Mercedes-Benz. McLaren have been fierce and fair competitors since 2021, especially in the second half of this season. McLaren's strong performances underline the importance of transparent and equal supply to all customer teams in the sport, if we wish to achieve the goal of ten teams capable of fighting for podium finishes.”

F1’s future power units will enjoy 50% internal combustion and 50% electrical power. This has been achieved by increasing electrical performance and rebalancing the performance of the internal combustion engine, to deliver a maximum output of over 1000 horsepower. The new power units will run on 100% sustainable fuel - which will conform to strict sustainability criteria in both its production and formulation - and overall fuel consumption will be reduced.

2024 Sprint overhaul and tyre blanket ban scrap among F1 Commission discussion points

The final Formula 1 Commission meeting of 2023 has taken place with changes to the Sprint format and a scrap on the tyre blanket ban among the key discussion points. The meeting, which was chaired by FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis and Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, was held at the Yas Marina Circuit. Since being introduced at select grands prix throughout the year in 2021, the Sprint configuration has undergone several revisions in the intervening years. However, the format’s failure to deliver exciting racing and the impact it had on the disqualifications in the United States GP led to calls for further alterations. The Commission has voiced its support for an overhaul of the Sprint format and the separation of the sessions from those related to the main grand prix weekend. The final calendar for the 2024 Sprint events will be published in the coming weeks. Any tweaks to the system, notably regarding timing and parc ferme regulations, will be formed in a final proposal presented to the F1 Commission at its first meeting of 2024.

Meanwhile, the Commission also agreed that the proposed ban on tyre blankets, which had previously been touted as a possible addition, should be abandoned for 2025. That suggestion comes amid a consensus that the direction for future tyre development “should be focused on reducing issues of overheating and improving the raceability of the tyres”. Furthermore, the relevant appendices to the Sporting and Technical regulations stipulating that a future decision on tyre blankets will be made in July 2024 have been removed.

The regulation regarding the Alternative Tyre Allocation (ATA) rule, trialled at two rounds this year, has also been removed. The standard 13 sets of tyres will remain for 2024. After complaints regarding the severe temperatures experienced at the Qatar Grand Prix last month, the FIA announced that it would launch an investigation into the situation. Following on from that, the Commission has today approved updates to the Technical regulations permitting a scoop to be fitted to each car in order to improve driver cooling. The meeting also reveals that “additional analysis” is currently being undertaken surrounding “supplementary cooling options for more extreme conditions”.

Elsewhere, the Commission confirmed that further trials will be carried out in spring next year amid continued attempts to reduce the spray in wet weather conditions. The upcoming trial “will use a cover design that completely envelops the tyre to establish a proof of concept for the wheel cover with these cars and help define the future direction”.

Looking ahead to F1’s next regulation change coming in 2026, the Commission has decided that no work should be carried out on the next generation of cars before the start of 2025. A safety-related amendment to the Technical regulations was also approved to mitigate the danger created by metallic components situated on the floors of the cars in the event that they become detached at any stage by limiting both their mass and number. Finally, the Commission also ratified that further adjustments should be made to exclude the Sustainability Initiative Costs from the financial regulations. The report reads that this “specifically refers to costs that are attributable to defining and identifying sustainability objectives and the strategy envisaged to achieve these”.
